Modified Trucker 5000 for Ham band

OK, here is what I would like to accomplish. Take my Trucker 5000 and add shaft and stinger to make it work on 15 or 17 meters. I did some research and found that the coil is equal to 53 inches of antenna. So if I use the 22 inch shaft, the coil (which is 53 inches), and a 58 inch whip I would...

    Dipoles

I recently made a 75 meter dipole. Here is how it is constructed. I used plexiglass to make the feed point, 6x6, 1/4" thick. Drilled 2 holes, one on each corner to attach the wire to and two more holes in the center for the coax to go through. Why 2 holes? If you snake the coax through one then...

This isn't exactly right, but divide your RMS by .707 and that will get you a really rough estimate. fasteddy

    FRS/GMRS radio questions

Here's a thought. Use the ones that come with CTCSS. Set all the clubs up to use a certain squelch tone, and then you will only hear when another club member is talking. Give it a shot and see how it works. fasteddy

    FRS/GMRS radio questions

Muddog, I think once you start using these radios you will change your mind. Nothing like having a nice quiet frequency to communicate on. With GMRS you are not limited to the 500 milliwatts that you are with FRS, and you can use an external antenna. Just do us all a favor and buy the license...

    RCI 2970 ALC ?

Bub73, It sounds like you might have some carrier on your SSB signal. A quick way to check is to tune 1KC up (for LSB)and 1KC down (for USB), and see if you hear a tone. If you do than it is carrier on your SSB signal. You would then need to go into the rig and adjust the carrier balance to get...
