Thanks guys,
I know that mobile antennas for the low bands are just a great big dummy load . Just wanting to get something going in the dump truck. Just about to go crazy without my radio, just not much activity...
Looking pretty seriously at using the Hustler HF antennas on the Dump Truck. Just wanted to get sopme opinions from the guru's first. I think I am going to start with a 40 meter and a 17 meter. Then I will probably start getting more resonators as the budget allows.
Thanks

KIR 118, it wasn't bleedover I had the problem with. It was just plain ol receiver noise and engine noise and things like that. The 257's noise blanker did nothing for it while the noise blanker in the Grant took out about 90% of it. Man I wished that old Grant hadn't of died on me<img...
I think for mobile operations the Grant would have an edge on the 257. I have had 1 257 and 1 of its clones and both radios had very noisy receivers in the mobile. I had to run the RF gain between 60 and 75% to knock back the noise levels. I did at one time have and old 3 button President Grant...
Try wilsonantenna.com , the part you are looking for is called a mast. Just go to the parts page and find your antenna and you will see the part called "mast with set screw", that is what you need.
hope this helps

Justrod,
I put the HC-5 cartiridge in the sock mic on my Kenwood TS-50 and I get nothing but great reports on the audio. And that is out of a Dump truck.

Garth,
I am available all week this week. I'm still of on medical leave. Maybe we should try a not so popular freq , or another band. C'mon all the rest of you Ham's on here lets get together and have some fun...
Doc,
20 might be a little rough from CO to OK, but it would be worth a try for sure. I know what you mean about warmer weather and antenna work. When you can get more antennas up we will have to try 40, I'll bet that would work great. I don't have any SSTV equip Doc or I would give that a whirl...
I would like to get together with all of the Hams on the forum. If anyone is interested we could make a sched for this weekend. Depending on your location and distance from Southern Colorado we could decide on a band that would work best. I have all band capability with the Cushcraft AP8...
Thanks Paul, that means a lot. I am longer working the 11 meter band. Seems some knothead from Florida is trying to cause me problems with the FCC for freebanding. I guess they are jealous, but for why I don't know. The General class license is an equal oppurtunity license, all you have to do is...
Joe, it sounds to me like you have an older non DX version. If that is true I have a Thomas Publishing CB tune up manual and this is what it shows. S601 unconverted the pins chould be jumpered like this. :l , to convert the radio you need to move the shorting jumper over to the left and it...
Ron,
It sounds like a dead meter. I have several meters here and you would be welcome to have one. I would just need to know what size and so forth. The light is probavly just burned out and I could send you one of those as well.
Let me know and we can go from there.
