If I set the driver and final bias the way the manual says for the bipolar finals, I can't even get 4 watts dead key with the pot turned all the way up. Set them back to 4.20v, I can turn dead key up to 10w. 4.20v seems to me to be the correct voltage.

I run a 2970n2 in my semi. Just plug the little dongle into the socket behind the display. I talk all over the place when 10m is open. Secret is to leave the mod limiters alone!
I would just be happy if the radio manufacturers would just keep their manuals up to date. I'm STILL waiting for a 2970n2 manual with the proper bias voltage settings for the 520 mosfets. Same goes for the galaxy 959's with the mosfets. My brand new 959B with the blue LED display had both driver...
First thing you do after connecting the radio to your pc is start the software and download a copy of the radios "code plug" programming file. Then put a copy of it somewhere safe, in case you brick the radio. Then you modify another copy with the software and upload it back into the radio...
This is my mid 90's Motorola Spectra converted to 2m. This is the 110w trunk mount with the system 9000 control head. I use it as a base station with a Diamond X50 antenna. These radios are built like tanks and can't be beat, especially in a metro area. They are dirt cheap on eBay. Only problem...

Yes that's it. There is not much clearance above it. I may have to scrounge for smaller caps. The ones that I bought have a bit higher voltage rating, so they are bigger.
