Honestly I would (if possible) go for something like an Yaesu FT-857. This will be a far better choice especially for interfacing, and having HF it will give you that incentive to upgrade. An HT is worthless 90% and a waste of money unless you want to be a "Shack on my belt" Ham.

Go to Radio Shack and get DeOxIt. That will clean and recondition the controls. Just take your time and use it sparingly. Can't say 100% about it hurting the finish, but I've used it a long time and take care to keep it contained.

A Tram D201 is a classic, a nice set of Eagles are classics, a virgin Cobra 2000 GTL in an unopened box is a classic. Crack that bad boy open, mod it right, and put it on air. It will not put your kids through college, but it will give you a lot of fun.:thumbup1:
