HF in the mobile ??? or just 10 meters???

That definitely is not my experience. I used a remote tuner such as an Icom or SGC right at the whip feed point. I used a piece of copper strapping as the conductor. Worked well.

HF in the mobile ??? or just 10 meters???

I have two problems with a screwdriver antenna: 1) Difficult to mount, unless you use a license plate mount or trailer hitch mount. I don't have a trailer hitch so the license plate mount would do me. But you need a rigid, robust mount to handle a screwdriver. 2) Winter is hell on a...

What kind of Local distance? 10/11 meters.

Hy-gain Super Penetrator 500 at 45'. AM: 15W carrier: about 50 miles, minimum. SSB, 50W: about 75 miles, with 100W SSB: about ~90 miles. with an S3 signal. Varies over 24 hrs due to diurnal propagation. Better at night due to less solar and man-made noise. Tried running 500W AM...

Higher voltage = higher wattage output?

OK - to answer your original question - don't bother upping the voltage. Not worth the trouble. You will only get a small fractional percentage increase which means nothing, and the other guy will never see it. Yes, you can increase voltage slightly to lower the amp's IMD, but even that...

    Problems with Yaesu FT-1802 receive

The problem you describe is common to most modern FM transceivers. This affects modern Kenwood, Yaesu and Icom radios. The problem is the current batch of Toko IF flters. The old batch had an incorporated series capacitor inside the filter. The new batch does not. Since there is a DC...

Stryker 955HP SSB - hitting stores this week

Oooooh! Not good! Thanks for the heads-up on that. I too await further reports and reviews of the '955. So far, I'm leaning on another Optima Mk II.

I used to work for Rohde and Schwartz. Very, very, very high end stuff. It is the Rolls Royce of communications and test equipment. Worth every dime.

    Rci-2950dx-3

Sigh... What makes anyone think that they know better than the engineers that designed the radio, or the factory technicians that tuned it for final quality control? I have at least 10 different so-called export radios (Magnum S9-175, Ranger 69FFC2, SS 158EDX, Connex 4800 GTL...

Best Japanese HF Amateur Transceivers for AM Audio

For classic boat-anchors, the Yaesu FT-101 line can't be beat. For contemporary, current rigs, I've heard the new Alinco DX-SR8T/E, and it sounds superb on AM. The one I heard had a D-104 hooked up. Sounded great.

Announcing the W9WDX Worldwidedx.com Amateur Radio Club

Does Amateur certification expire in the U.S.? Up here, once you have your certificate, you're good for life. In the past, you got a "Certificate of Proficiency in Radio", specific to your license class. That certificate was good for life, but you had to pay a yearly fee for the...

Any one using an antenna tuner for ssb cb

I use a Hy-gain SPT-500 Super Penetrator, tuned for 28.800 MHz with an MFJ 945E tuner. I use the tuner on 11M. The tuner has a bypass switch so I can bypass the tuner for 10M. The combo works great.

    Mowhawk 7A amplifier

A pair of 811's, eh? What's the plate voltage? Grid or cathode driven (grounded-grid)? In any case, a pair will deliver about ~400W carrier or so, at full drive. In AM operation, you should see about ~100 W more or less, (dead key). I would never use an 811 type amp for AM -...

    Mowhawk 7A amplifier

If it's designed for 811A's, then dropping a pair of 572B's will work well. You won't get much more power than the original 811's, but the 572B's should last forever. At about 1800VDC, they are loafing, if not asleep. ;) So, uh... where's the bandswitch?

ANyone think and email campaign would solve this lack of product on the market?

I have an OPTIMA and it's a great little radio that performs and behaves like a real HF radio. It cost me about $350. delivered. For about $250. more you can get a real radio, the ALINCO DX-SR8 And yes, it can be opened up for 11M, and it has quite decent AM.

Same as the Golden Goose... er, I mean General Grant. I have a Gen. Grant. OK radio. Identical to the SS158EDX, except higher power. Same drift problems all 6900 boards have. Only difference is that the '158EDX has echo. General Grant, SS158EDX

    Magnum 1012

It is what it is, indeed! The supplied rubber ducky antenna is worthless. You will need the MFJ 1810T or the 1812T antenna to get any results, or at very least, the Magnum LRD-1012 whip, (shown). They do work! I used one in my mobile and worked a VK. He gave me a 5/6, I gave him a...

    Is This True?

Realistic TRC 449, Cobra 148's etc, etc, are collector's items now. I give/sell 'em to collectors. They can do what they want with them.
