    100w into four 572b's making 1200w is 11dB and sounds about right. 100w into two 572b's making 600w is only 8dB and doesn't sound right. So my question was, "how does adding tubes increase gain"?

    Actually, that 120vac transformed, rectified and filtered can be several thousand volts. Even unplugged there is enough potential stored in the caps to kill someone very easily. BUT, this a 12vdc related thread.

    The VR is barely adequate to start, then you dragging the wiper across the resistive element while keyed exaggerates it's demise.
