Dan .. my personal opinion is if a radio doesn't have sideband, then it's not worth considering, but to each his own. I'd go with a lower power radio and add an amp.

I just finished repairing a phone line ... soldered the wires with a 99 cent Bic lighter , resin core solder , and some shrink wrap...looks rather well.:whistle:

Robb, looks fairly nice, I would be interested in a review after some use. I always feel that you don't run your car at WFO RPMs continuously , so why expect a power supply to perform at 100% or more for a continued time.

Just for grins ... of the types mentioned, where do the fiberglass whips land?

I wonder if it was worth it....
