    high swr protection circuit idea

Does the 959 have a l.e.d that lights when the swr is high? You could use that to drive a transistor that opens a relay in the tx line from the microphone.

    high swr protection circuit idea

I see now. So you add the impedances using the resistors in parallel formula just the same. I never thought about it like that.

    high swr protection circuit idea

Really? I assumed that nested dipoles work on the same principle. The rf goes the path of lowest swr. And don't say that the impedance of the dummy load and the antenna are too close because I have heard of hams using nested dipoles all cut for the same band to make their station more...

OK, I am just gonna ask the dumb questions

You can get skip on any mode though it's easiest on USB/LSB. There are any number of reasons for transmitting on more than one channel such as an overdriven or badly designed amp or impedance mismatch on the microphone. It's not guaranteed that a cut am limiter will cause splatter but it depends...

    high swr protection circuit idea

You could make a 100 ohm dummy load for the radio and hook it in parallel to the antenna coax. That way if the antenna swr rose above 2:1 the radios output would dissipate in the dummy load instead of the antenna. It would save the radio just the same.

OK, I am just gonna ask the dumb questions

Nobody "goes" to Dxland, they wait for Dxland to come to them. Dx land usually occurs during working hours. If you have a job then when you get back there could be nothing on the radio. >> The other thing I am wondering is, How does someone in Chicago >> bleed over a 10 channel range on my...

    2950DX with no TX output

My 2970n2 had a similar problem. After it tx'ed in to a high swr antenna it gradually lost more power until it only did 40watts ssb which was garbled sounding. Am/fm power was down also but the audio was okay. The rf meter on the radio woundn't swing fully either. A tech resoldered some joints...

Anyone like to comment on this radio Racal Javelin RC9125?

Right you are captain. I found some more about racal radios here All about Racal RA3701 and RA3712 Receivers if anyone is interested. It looks like it has a rs232 port so no remote head needed.

    Palomar 300a problem.

that part on rfparts has max plate volts of 1.8kv. i'm not sure is that ok but it probably is. the ebay link seems fine.

    Palomar 300a problem.

I looked up a capacitor cheat sheet. I think its 4000pf doorknob. There's a few on ebay rated to 20kv at the moment. Anything over 3kv should be fine. I could be wrong about the code as I don't know what the z is for so hopefully someone else will chime in.

No I see nothing there to indicate you're crazy. If you had visual snow or distortions in depth perception that could be worth looking into. I see your crazy fog and raise you one crazy frog; Crazy Frog - Axel F - YouTube

    Crazy fog

The heat from the flashlight could cause turbulence in the air near the lens. I've often seen vapour rising from the lens of powerful flashlights for 6 feet much like your breath would turn in to vapour on a cold day.

Same frequency on multiples of 2 on channel selector?

Faulty channel switch. Either rip it apart and clean the corrosion from it or replace the part.

    Quad speakers ?

Power is not an issue. You can run 128 speakers if you want to so long as you match the impedances but the volume on each speaker will drop. Calculate the impedances of the speakers the same way you would with resistors in series or parallel. Examine the Y adapter to see is it a stereo or mono...

Pics of the 2m 4 element quad

Nice job. I've been thinking about building something similar since I got my ticket recently. You could strengthen the antenna in the lower pic up a deal by drilling pilot holes where the two plastic pipes overlap and screwing in a timber screw. What do you plan to use as a rotator if any?
