I don't really care for the D-star radios,but I do have 1 icom commercial radio which we use IDAS on our local uhf repeater. IDAS has much more natural sounding speech even after switching from analog.

As you've probably guessed there's not a lot of need for autopatch since cellular coverage is almost anywhere.
However dtmf is also useful with echolink and irlp!
It's also used for remote control features of repeaters.

Ok that explains it! I never really got sucked into the big cb craze that most of the kids did when I was still green.
All my beams were made by decibel products and cushcraft.

Why not use a uhf commercial mobile like a kenwood tk-805d which is field programmable,instead of screwing up a perfectly good ham rig?
A commercial unit is already tuned for gmrs where a ham rig will not be as sensitive or perform well that far out of band!

I purchased a discontinued kenwood kmc-18a dtmf mic and I was not able to get original instructions for the memories used to store the dtmf codes. Would someone know of a site or url where I could get the instructions or at least the schematic? This mic uses the 6pin rj45 conn.:unsure:
