I could never understand why they called it a V-quad. A quad has 4 sides. A V-quad has three sides and in fact is a delta loop. Call it what you will but a V-quad is really a delta loop, nothing more and nothing less.
The simple answer is the same answer most people do not want to hear. Gain figures in MOST cases are pure bullshit and designed for sales, not truthfulness. CB antenna have the worst reputation for that. Not to say SOME ham antennas are not exaggerated, but for the most part they are much more...
I take exception to that assertion. I am an only child and I grew up showing respect to others. I also matured rather quickly as both my parents worked and we lived just outside of town. I learned to do things for myself rather early. Any lack of social skills I may have are limited to simply...
They think it is unsafe to take one hand off the wheel to use a 2-way radio, yet it is fine........if not encouraged, to buy a Tesla where you can take BOTH hands off the wheel, have a nap, and it will drive itself to your destination. Damn......I hate being born with common sense and a high...
LOL That IS the parasitic suppressor. It consists of a carbon resistor somewhere around 40-60 ohms and the coil shunting it. Easy to check. Lift the anode cap and remove one end of the coil from the resistor to measure the resistor.
LOL Check out the specs on a Trylon T-500. No worries about the legs bending. It is 18 inches wide at the top and 42 inches wide at the bottom with HEAVY 60 degree angle legs, not tubular. It will support 52 square feet at the top in a 70 mph wind. The cable attachment point will be about 25...
Better follow up that rescue tape with some regular electrical tape. It is not UV resistant. I found that out when I found that it almost completely disappeared after a few years. I now cover it with Scotch-88 electrical tape and it has lasted well over a decade.............and still counting.
Back in my younger days I would put up and take down my 40 foot free standing tower and all the antennas myself. I had a gin pole for erecting the tower or taking it down and would install a three element tribander, a six element yagi for 6m and an eleven element yagi for 2m all by myself...
Why would you ever need two different impedances available in the same antenna? 75 ohm is used in television and that is about it. Any impedance issues due to phasing can be overcome with proper coaxial cable lines.
Anybody have any plans for viewing the eclipse on Monday? Are you even in or near the path of totality? I said WTF and took Monday and Tuesday off and will be headed to somewhere along the north shore of New Brunswick Monday morning to be dead centre of the path of totality. It's about 3 to 4...
I agree with above. This has nothing to do with the radios you mentioned. It is all about cell jammers and wifi jammers that have seemed to sprung up everywhere illegally.
Although it has been many years since I have been on 11m I remember the heyday of the late 70's and 80's when every man and his dog had a radio. I have never used any more than 100 watts on 11m at any time and for many years was confined to just 25 watts. I did ALWAYS use SSB and had a Wilson...
I wouldn't touch it again. My personal feelings mind you but stuff like this can lead to a blemish on your reputation. Nom telling if he does the same stunt again what he might say about the cause.
Why use wires to communicate via a wireless system? It WILL radiate so it will NOT be private. If you want privacy and a closed system use old telephones with the carbon mikes, a battery of some voltage 12-48volts and you have private comms.
I must admit that any time I hear someone say that coiling up coax forms an inductor, I assume they are talking about the inner conductor, mainly because they usually are talking about that. Lots of folks think that coiling it up will somehow reduce the power output because the cable forms an...
