    Strange Meter Problem

When I worked for PDC, we used a can of static guard to spray the meter faces before packaging in bubble wrap.

    thoughts on the chinese units

Sure they look nice but that $80 can cost you more in the long run. Once the hammer drops, and the easy traceability of ebay sales and purchases, now comes the FCC knocking at your door. Personally I wouldn't use them for GMRS either. Nothing against China, I just have too many...

    Packet radio tips and tricks?

I was into Packet back in '95-'96 using an AEA TNC with a C64 Computer running in DOS. Actually I am getting back into Packet and just purchased an AEA PK-96 along with an Alinco DR 1200T radio. This was due to a long time ham friend setting up a BBS and wanting to resurrect the packet in...

    push poles

If you are going that far in height for a push-up pole I highly recommend guying. I use a Rohn 40' push up (metal) mast and I guy it, especially if you are running a beam or vertical over 5' in height.

The Win System, check it out

Interesting indeed. I never tried the IRLP because I never had a PC that ran Linux (for long). I am looking into pindrivelinux, VMWARE and virtual pc programs. I used echolink and years ago I had a simplex node connected to two repeaters. I am checking out the streaming audio for this...

    Yaesu VX-3R

Yaesu VX-3R HT Review Purchased from: R&L Electronics on March 5, 2008 Price: $169 After a brief break from the radio hobby, I decided that is was time to update some of my equipment. Looking for a dual band HT in the $175 range, I found that the VX-3R seemed to fill the bill as far as...

    ?? $$$ ?? Kenwood

Sounds like typical hamfest rhetoric. Check out this link:http://www.universal-radio.com/used/sold045.html It may be true that this model goes for $500 at hamfests (but I doubt for less than that unless the condition is poor or non-working). I was trying to find what they were going for...

Palstar 2000am Meter or Comet CMX-1 meter

My opinion would surely be biased (used to be a tech at Palstar) as I built and tested a few of these meters. I would go with the Palstar 2000AM over the Comet CMX-1. I never really cared to much for the Comet brand name but that is from my personal experiences with their products. Besides, I...

    kenwood ts-130s

Interesting... Make sure there is not something touching the case internally that shouldn't be (i.e. non-insulated wire or component) when sliding the cover on. Also make sure the cover screws are not touching something they are not supposed to. Other than that I couldn't say without more...

    Choosing a transciever

I concur the Yaesu FT-60R is a fine HT, I had one of these radios and it was probably the best HT I ever possesed thus far. I haven't heard much on the VX-170 but it looks like it would be closer to your price range for the features you were wanting. If you live in an area such as myself...

    Yaesu VX-3R

I just ordered this HT this morning from R&L Electronics. It looks rather interesting and can be modified for MARS. This radio replaced my Yaesu FT-60R, I almost purchased another FT-60R but decided to go with the smaller unit since most of the repeaters are close to my QTH. Maybe I will use...
