Happy_Hamer,
The Icom-718 is a sweet rig!
As I mentioned, I already have a Kenwood (TS-2000) transceiver - and wish to dive into the export market for some everyday use and fun!!
The HF rigs are a most excellent choice for SSB, but not so great...
I don't know about all this negative jazz here, but I do get great on the air reports, using a d-104 m6 power mic.
The locals seem to dig the audio on the 4300-300 as compared to the audio on the Kenwood TS-2000.
So, who am I to argue with them? :)
Peace!

No, I like your idea.... by the time one buys and installs all the bells and whistles of a 2995dx, they could have had the 98vhp (which puts out more watts) bought and paid for.
Cool deal.
Am leaning toward the 98 vhp.....(but that could all change)!!
I am terrible...! :P

Okay.... where can I look to find info. on whether it is best to purchase a base or mobile for a base operation (I know a lot of it must be preference). I have a 57 amp power supply, and it is down to the galaxy 98vhp (mobile) or base (ranger 2995 dx).
Just want to make the most informed...
DTB Radios sounds like a viable option!!
I don't really need more than 200-300 watts on any mode, so then again, how about the Galaxy 98 VHP?
My biggest concern is having my doorbell rung, 10-4?

This ought to be fun!
A local cb friend may want to buy one of these, but is unsure as to where the best place is.
I told them I'd help them.
Whatta nice guy I am!!

(waving a hand)
I've run the Connex at 100 watts + swing, during the daytime and evening hours - with no rings on the doorbell.
Over night, I have pumped it up full throttle. And, no complaints the next day.
Seems to be swinging 350 watts when RF Power is wide open.
I'm using a Daiwa SWR/Power Meter...
Butcher 318 et al:
I actually did inquire with Copper! I was on the phone with them about 5 times.
I don't know all that we covered 100%, but my main concern was that I was getting the right tune-up.
Of course, the channel conversion was a given, and outside from that, I don't remember...
Update... I have things set at 50 RMS, ~250 Swing.
I'm using a Daiwa CN-101L SWR/Power Meter with PEP Measurement.
Fingers crossed... there have been no neighbor complaints.
Yeah... These exports are pretty much toys.
Snake Eyes waving a hand...
73's!!
Well, I got this thing from Copper today.
RF Power is completely turned down with stock mic, and the mic gain on the radio is at 12 o'clock.
...It works like a champ (so far)!
The only thing I haven't tested on it is the echo, which I will get to soon enough.
I ordered a D-104 hand...
omg, really dude!!
a tune is a tune is a tune.... you don't think these guys have the same or similar capabilities....
i'd rather trust the big guys than somebody with a name like gijoeelectronics or radioactiveradios....
see what i mean?
gi joe? radio active?
copper has been in...
I dunno.... they are cheaper, but they are essentially doing the same thing to the radio when I request it to be tuned not to exceed 100% modulation. They have the same equipment as other guys, etc.
I inquired about the superwackpack (radioactiveradios) and I was basically ran off due to the...
that's cool, i have some hf radios i'd like to have d104's wired up to.... did you do the wiring yourself, or can you recommend a place online to have it done?
snake eyes
I bought it through Copper, and incidentally, the technician called me and explained that it would need to be tuned for 100% modulation on the high end (as I requested modulation not to exceed 100%), because tuning it on the low end would create some issues.
I hope I made a good choice in...
SR385,
It is interesting that you are using the D104 hand mic with your HF rig. What do you mean by removing the limiters and such on the D104?
I understand turning the hand mic to no more than 2 on the dial.
Thanks,
Snake Eyes
