I used one for about 8 months in my mobile until it quit working. It had a different name brand on it, but same exact design. I can't exactly remember why it quit working, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was due to simple misoperation. :D
Sounds like the ARRL Antenna Handbook is what you need, then. You will get all kinds of ideas. I read it cover to cover when I first got it, and keep going back to my copy every once and a while to check on certain things, so to me the 35 bucks is worth it. Unfortunately, it might be to late...
You still can't get "everywhere" just by moving the last digit. It's especially troublesome when the radio is off freq to begin with, as they usually come straight out the box. Unless you're a "come to me" kind of guy that isn't going to move his unlocked clarifier (or vfo) in the first place...
That is a good point.
Some are acting like the cb/10 meter export world has actually made some leaps in technology since 1979. There really hasn't been much of any, unless you want to count mosfets. Now, if someone was choosing a cobra 2000gtl over an Icom756 PRO3, then I'd agree with you...
The 2950DX and the 2970DX are the same except for the power difference. There is a guy I talk to regularly on 27.365 lower side band that sounds great on it. He runs an Astatic 575. His is dead center on frequency. It sure seems to be a good sounding SSB radio to me. However, I do agree...
It is a little bit of a silly answer when you read it now. Used 2000's are probably going for more today than a used 696. However, I know for a fact some of the things I've said 7 years ago (or maybe 7 months ago) would make me blush.
Thanks as always for the comments W5LZ.
I have some 350 ohm that is fairly easy to handle, however some 450 ohm that I bought from wireman 5 years ago I have to argue with and fight nearly every other day. It's excellent quality stuff and I really do like it, it just tends to give me fits. It...
A little off topic, please excuse me...
I have a 102' G5RV here that is fed with the 350 ohm ladder line and 50 ohm coax combo. The more I think about it, the more I just want to cut the 50 ohm coax off and feed it directly with the 350 ohm. The antenna protests whenever I try to tune it to...
When I started in CB, there were two CB shops local to me, one was a "good one" and one was a "bad one". The first place I ever heard the 18 foot of coax myth was the "good" CB shop. :D This man was in business for probably 35 years and even owned a patent on an antenna product and later...
The 2950DX is a good radio, It's just not my kind of radio. Without getting too much into it, I think the 2950DX is a mediocre to above average SSB rig. The fact that even tried and true SSB operators now point to it as the shining example of a great SSB rig depresses me even further...
I understand what Northpoint is saying, but I also agree with Peddler. I'd be more than happy with a bare bones, easily modifiable, frequency stable radio like the President Lincoln that I can later add talkback or echo to if I want.
You might as well just spend a few hundred more and get a...
