Tell me about it. I came back to the hobby after a long hiatus wanting to buy a new President Lincoln, and found out there is no current replacement for it on the new market.
I thought to myself, "jeez, I guess people don't use sideband anymore..." but that isn't exactly true. In fact, I...
I just discovered these neat scanners and was thinking about getting one. Anyone heard anything about them or own one? I had my eye on the Uniden 396t before I started looking at the GREs.
I had an Omni D. I probably should have kept it for a back up rig. The most impressive thing that I can remember about it was the quiet receiver. You could very nearly full quiet an HF frequency.
The readings are correct in as much as the radio is now seeing a near perfect 50 ohm impedance, but RF is probably not being delivered to the antenna.
For example, a certain length of coax not connected to anything can show a flat SWR. A dummy load also shows a flat SWR. Neither of these...
That's good advice for people who are capable of fixing their own equipment. Me, I'm just coming to grips with the fact that I have no business messing around with a 500 dollar plus piece of electronics. :D
There is an impedance matching system on the bottom of the antenna (Those things you move to adjust SWR). It acts like a tuner at the feed point of the antenna that matches to your coax's 50 ohm impedance.
Remember the ground plane kits for the A99s? Theoretically, I would think they would...
My initial thought was that the tower was re-radiating RF since it was the "new" thing in your installation. Sounds like it was either that or the ground rod. Glad you fixed it.
Hey all,
My buddy was running his rig off of a battery charger so to get him on the air more I loaned him a 25 Amp Pyramid power supply that was just sitting around. I've had it about 4-5 years and hadn't used it in about the last year. I'm not sure what the model numbers are.
He has...
You've gotten me thinking about a 101 I passed up a few years ago that still had the plastic on it.:( I just looked on ebay to check out the 101 inventory and wasn't all that impressed. Sigh. It's so hard to find decent used radios, especially some of this old gear.
If I only had a good...
I never had a 101 but have heard plenty of them. I always felt the audio on the 520 was better...at least I liked it better anyway. Audio is a pretty subjective thing to classify.
The 520 I had was great, very clean. I bought it off of a ham that just had it completely worked over...
I have a buddy that had a Avanti Moonraker 4 on about 15 foot of tower with no rotor. Most of the time he just left it pointing west, because that was where most of the skip was coming in those days, but if for some reason he wanted to talk local or something he would climb up the tower and...
They should all perform about the same. What you should concern you is which will be the longest lasting/hold up against weather and wind, etc. I really can't help you with that. I'm only slightly familiar with these manufacturers since I am rather cheap and try to build my own antennas...
i would unlock the clarifier to track on transmit if you use ssb a lot (or cw). i believe there are some power mods too but i'm not all that interested in squeezing out 10 or 20 watts.
