Loosecannon: I did in fact find fault with the original coax I was using by doing just that. It didn't solve the problem but is a good way to find what is probably the most common cause of coax failure. Unfortunately I was dealing with more than one issue.

I drive a tractor-trailer and have been having trouble with achieving a low and stable SWR on a new tractor despite the fact that other drivers with new tractors are not having trouble.
After much experimenting and disappointment, I discovered that the only way to get an acceptable swr is to...
That Motorola looks like it has the same case and mounting bracket as the Boomer I used for my little experiment. I was thinking about buying one just so I could have something with that brand name on it. Oh, the memories of riding in a taxi as a kid. Some of you may have seen these in other...
That would something to consider but I'm trying to keep it simple in the company truck. Since you are using the aux input, do you have to choose between listening to the cb or stereo?
I'd thought about doing something similar using two of those mini cb speakers plugged direct into the cb as...
This mic has been collecting dust for at least 5 years so I got bored and decided to take a shot at replacing the switch. Since it was a spur of the moment decision and it had to be done NOW, I grabbed a beat up 636 that was given to me with a radio and used it's switch as a donor.
Somewhere...
It's up and running again, like nothing ever happened. As an added bonus, the $1.49 Radio Shack price for the 1N4003 was for a 2-pack.
Thanks again, gentlemen!
I decided to replace the speaker in my "Boomer" because it was no better than the Cobra external speaker I had planned on replacing and the Boss dropped right into the Boomer case and the screw holes lined up.
There is a noticeable difference in both the clarity and loudness of the new...
I thought it looked a bit discolored, but that appears to be wax. It's hard to see but the jumper coming down from the plug has what I think is a slight oxidation where it goes into the top.
Unplugged it and it won't be plugged in until I get a new diode in place. RS has them in stock 4 miles from home for $1.49 ea. As you can see, I'm willing to pay TOP DOLLAR for fast service.
Would that be a cylindrical shaped thingy that's kinda suspended in mid-air, in line from the plug...
I only had a few minutes to play with it today but it powered up after removing one leg of D23.
I found L201 printed on the board but couldn't figure out which one it was. I hope to spend a few more minutes tomorrow and maybe take a ride to RS.
I successfully replaced a bunch of stuff in my 29 Classic that involved a whole lotta searching so I do have some experience at finding things. I'll bet I can locate that diode in only 42-43 minutes!
Absolutely. I guess that would explain why I'm not too tore up about this. Thanks for the...
I ordered a Boss BRS40 4" Dual Cone Replacement Speaker from Amazon which came in the mail today. I figure that for $8 and free shipping it was worth it to satisfy my curiosity.
I hope to try it out this weekend and will let you know how it turns out.
And I'm almost certain the culprit is a faulty power supply in a mobile.
I was using a different truck than I normally drive and had the cb plugged into the cigarette lighter. Here's what I know:
1.When I put the radio back in my car it immediately blew the fuse in the lighter plug.

I have that one also, but in a humpless Ford Focus. I put Velcro on the bottom of the legs which holds it firmly on a carpeted floor mat. It's very small but can easily handle a Cobra 29 or similar size radio.
Certainly one to consider and it appears they are available at eham for $20. The only problem is now I got this replacement speaker idea in my head and won't be satisfied until I try and fail.
I still haven't ruled that one out especially knowing how well they sound and they are available at the Pilot truck stop that I pass on my commute to and from work.
A tank for sure.:)
