    Broke a 811a tube.

RF Parts 811a tubes are as good as anyones elses chinese tubes, ASK about their refund policy before you purchase, I seem to reember they a quite good at refunds BTW: you can operate that amp with only 3 tubes, just leave the "hole" nearest the fan empty

the antenna gods seem to hate me... 10m/20m, Inverted V, fan dipole will not work

I have to ask,.... with all this wire shortening, are you actually cutting the wire? I usualy just fold it back on itself, and after I get it where I want it, I cut it off once.

Regarding antennas, what does counterpoise mean?

thats the reason I made the post about MARCONI antennas Vs HERTZ antennas,......... people were trying to attribute certain properties of a Marconi antenna (earth grounded/counterpoise/radials/TOH) to a Hertz antenna (isolated from earth/no counterpoise/radials), when by DEFINATION, the lack...

Regarding antennas, what does counterpoise mean?

seems that there is some confusion about the difference between a MARCONI antenna and a HERTZ antenna. Nearly all antennas have been developed from two basic types, the Hertz and the Marconi. The basic Hertz antenna is 1/2 wavelength long at the operating frequency and is insulated from...

Regarding antennas, what does counterpoise mean?

they may be isolated @ D.C. , but @ RF they are not;)

dual band 80/40 homebrew vertical... what a waste of my day

using a chain link fence can be great,......... or it can really sux. the individual wires are NOT really connected and they sometimes and sometimes do not contact each other resulting in intermittent grounding and NOISE in the reciever. good luck

Amp reduces gain when going from standby to operate

I don't have any problems with MFJ stuff, but every thing I buy new from them I look real close inside it before I use it,... lots of pieces of wire, cold solder joints , ect are common. I went to the ARRL day in the park @ MFJ this year and they put on a great meal for everyone, also 15% of...

dual band 80/40 homebrew vertical... what a waste of my day

actually the lenght of "tuned" ground placed or buried radials is not that much of a factor, the close proximity to the earth will detune them. believe it or not,.... using more radials will cause the observed VSWR to increase,..... but the efficiency of the antenna will increase. I have 3...
