September and October are Meteor Season and could be good for some Dx contacts on Vhf and Uhf. Heres a link for some Meteor Shower schedules and information.

You may want to explain what a screwdriver antenna is and how it works.
I think it would be alot of work for just one band.

I've done this in the past with good results, the contacts are short but you can make some good distant contacts. Just aim the antenna into the path of the shower and crank up the amp. It helps if you have your beams on a az/el rotor so you can shoot you signal into the scatter paths. A CP...
Who made this one.???
I picked this one up on EBAY
Its a 1/2 wave ground Plane Model JA-GPV-27
No manufacture on the assembly instructions. It looks to be made fairly well.

I was wondering about different testing methods for antenna builders. Tools of the trade, radiation patterns and swr measurements. How tos and what nots. If anyone would like to share their ideas and methods please post them here.
I'm currently building a 6 meter 5 element stretch for the SSB...
I saw these on the Firestik website and was wondering if anyone has tried these and if they actually work better that the stock antenna.

Congrats on the new 2mtr SSB setup, and good luck with the antenna. Get your antenna set up for the spring and summer. Conditions will get good with the change of seasons.

I've been looking for a source for aluminum tubing, the 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8" seem to be tough to find.! Any Ideas.
Thanks

My 3900HG currently covers 25 something to 28.3 Can the band spread be modified to cover more of the 10 meter and less of the lower stuff. Maybe just jump up 1 band to cover to 28.8 . I've heard about crystal changes or can this be done with a jumper.? I'd rather cover 26.965 (ch 1) to the 10...

Does anyone have a mod to unlock this fine tune on the clairifier, The Superstar 3900 HG has an indent at center freq on the course tuner and makes it imposible to fine tune anyone without them having to tune to you.
Thanks

If this is the 23 channel 139 then you either need to add more crystals. each crystal will give you 4 channels. or find a Siltronix model 90 vfo set up to use with that radio.
If its a 139XLR 40 channel with the UPD858 PLL then you can do a pin out to the PLL and get a bunch of different...

I had one of those ARF's years ago. And I didn't have it very long. Crappy audio, noisy receive, and very complex early digital inside.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":("> Enough said.

What kind of antenna would work on a Aluminum Jon Boat.?
No Amp Just stock 25 watt SSB CB. Would a Firestik work or is a ground an issue.?

I just can't believe how much these radios are bringing on the market, even the ones that have been laying in someones lawnmower shed for 20 years.
