Nothing in the manual about using #12 BEACON INTERVAL as the fill-in for the middle range, but it only makes sense.
I see SmartBeacon as a means to address extremes of speed and rate of turn so for the middle range #12 would seem to be the workable default.

Another feature
Your radio most likely has a feature called 'reverse'. Not deep in a menu, because it is something you may use when talking with a friend on the repeater. It allows you to easily switch from listening on the repeater output to listening to your friend on his output to the...
If the repeater uses CTCSS then you will have to transmit that tone to be heard.
Some repeaters if they use a voice announcement include the tone frequency along with the call-sign. On-line databases can help.
DCS is a higher tech version of PL/CTCSS used only when needed.
We were all...
Capt,
No argument from me on that point. I was just tying to layout a simplified explanation for a new users perspective. In my experience radio manuals play fast and loose with labels in the area of 'tone' between transmit and receive and while they are the same, in a sense they are...
PL and CTCSS use the same numbers. What makes them different is when they are used. PL when you transmit to open the repeater. CTCSS when you receive to open the squelch on your receiver. Usually the PL and CTCSS are the same if used. Sometime they need to be different (split) and some radios...
No... My experience has been with 2m and 70cm. 222 is bracketed by the other two bands, but the output is not 5 watts. 6m is not 5 watts either and the antenna will not be as efficient at that lower frequency even with the stinger attached for that band.
The radio has the added bands of 6m...
It is dual band at least. I have to look into the details, but as I recall you can listen in on commercial am/fm, if squelch breaks on either of the 'A' side or 'B' side it will mute the commercial stuff and you will hear the caller. I think you can set a priority channel too so the radio will...

3 - 2 watts out
6 - 5 watts out, dual band, single receive
7 - 5 watts out, dual band, dual receive
GPS in the radio supports APRS operations on 2 meters. The external GPS is significantly more useful in the field. One caveat - never leave home to go hiking without a map...
Internal power distribution
An earlier post pointed out possible power issues. I would have to go back to read the post again if the intent was external or internal. If you have access to a schematic check the internal power and see if there is a voltage that is common to the driver/power amp...
Nothing negative for the 19.
Give consideration for the weight the high round count adds up to. For the LEO that not a issue for all the other gear he/she carries. If it gets heavy to carry it is likely to stay at home. LEOs can be in a fire-fight situation where every round counts. For...

Thanks!
I am still getting use to the new call. Only one letter shorter, but for me more easily spoken and seems like I should have more to say when I get to the end of the call sign.
The only serial interface I know of with the DR is the multi-pin connector. Only a review of the schematic would be conclusive. Something I have not seen on the net yet or at lease I have not tried to find one.

No Delete
a12,
Masking (hiding) is the cheap and dirty version of delete. Overwriting is another way to deal with unwanted channel data.
The cloning software (RT Systems) deletes by rewriting all the MR information each time you send it to the radio. In the program it is very much like a...
zps,
You might try increasing the mic gain (Menu 60) or the mic gain on the Q2 (if it has one) for better received audio at the other end. On the other hand wind noise will increase also.

Meter (pointing direction) is only going to work if the rotor is connected. It is feedback from the rotor indicating position from end stops.
Take some time to find schematics for the control box and the rotor. Usually you can get them to work with the correct information.
There can be...
