I appreciate all the answers, everyone. I found a place that sells both RG-8 and 213 cable on the internet. They are the same price for an 18 ft. piece with the connectors already soldered on. So when Uncle Sam (the American one) sends me my tax return, I'll get to work on this.;)
I hope that I got the letters and numbers correct. I am wondering about the performance AND weatherproof comparisons between mini-8 cable and stiff RG-8 cable. It's for a cb base station installation.
I'm installing a base cb antenna on the roof of my house, and just need enough length to...
I'll have to agree with hotrod on this train of thought. My brother-in-law once SLAMMED a garage door down on an rg-8 coax I had. No damage was done...but can you imagine if it would have been rg-58 coax? The garage door would have cut it in half, or at least kinked it beyond repair. This...
I'll keep that in mind, jessejamesdallas. But I'm the kind of person that doesn't like to mess with success. This Astatic sure does sound good...but I have to admit it feels/looks a little plain. It's not a power mic, so it's not heavy.
I listened to myself talking on my Cobra 129 ltd with the stock mic. compared to the Astatic mic. I used a tape recorder, sitting next to a walkie-talkie at home while I drove around.
There is a noticeable difference. The stock Cobra mic. sounded loud and overmodulated, while the...
i appreciate the reply and periods and commas would help me to understand your response better and i did have a Uniden
Zachary and thanks for your response and maytheforcebewithyou.
I am currently using a Cobra 29 ltd radio, with a good antenna. I was wondering if I should "move up" to a side-band cb radio? Will the increase in wattage and side-band increase my abilitly to talk to base stations? Forgive me if these are simple questions. I really am looking at buying a...
I stay away from fiberglass antennas for one reason: years ago, I had a fiberglass antenna on a mobile cb, and the very thin metal whip in the fiberglass broke INSIDE THE FIBERGLASS, but the fiberglass itself remained intact. So the swr went off the scale without the antenna showing any...
I agree that the K-30 is lousy. I got one because of the low height. I couldn't get a decent match at all. Perhaps it was defective, but then again it shouldn't be defective to begin with. I never had a problem with the K-40 I had years ago, except the thieves love them. :crying:
I appreciate all of the answers, everyone. One thing is for sure: I can't put an eight-foot whip on my car. I do alot of driving and cb talking around town, and there are too many trees here for that.
I'm pretty satisfied with the combination of the cobra 29l ltd, astatic microphone...
I see alot of talk about the Wilson 1000 antennas.
I have Wilson 500, hooked up to a Cobra 29 ltd. in a car. It does pretty good, and my swr is about 1.3 on channels 1 and 40, and dips to close to 1.1 on 19. I know that the Wilson 1000 is supposed to be awesome, but does the increase in...
