Since channel 19 has become a "DX" channel, is there any movement on picking another channel to use for truckers, or any of us who use it while traveling? Keeping the squelch up to 80% doesn't seem like a good solution.

I've noticed that one of the local GMRS repeaters gets a decent amount of use, more than most of the Ham repeaters. Probably because there are only a few GMRS repeaters, and a TON of Ham repeaters. The people on it seem to be somewhere between CB and Ham radio as far as knowledge of radio...

Yeah, it's not a bad little radio. Had my XYL give me some audio reports talking on the local repeater. Said the audio was loud enough and clear. I just wish the batteries (with belt clips) were a bit cheaper. But, it's easy enough to swap the clips between batteries.

Lots of fine print in that warranty, I see shorter times as I read more. The US warranty is way shorter tho: All CFMOTO off road vehicles come with a limited one-year warranty, and all* CFMOTO motorcycles come with a limited two-year warranty (*Papio comes with a limited one-year warranty)...

Where did you see the 5 year warranty on the CF's? Everywhere I look says 1 year.

Just tested my RT-590... .25W on 1.25m. Same as the UV-K5.

The EGZumer firmware has a LOT of features that are useful. The ability to see both the channel name and frequency, 18-1300mhz reception with AM and SSB, battery voltage calibration, TX audio level, microphone adjustment, spectrum analyzer, and more settings to make using the radio easier.

Should be the same cable as the quad 6.

Nice. Eventually I'll get my 847 out of the basement storage tote and back in the shack. :) I was looking for a Kenwood TS-2000, but ended up with this one when one of the local clubs was selling off stuff from a SK.

The FT-757 looks like it uses a 6 pin mini DIN connector, and the FT-857/897 use an 8 pin mini DIN. I'm sure you can make an adapter to go from 6 to 8 pin, but it's cheap enough just to buy one for the 897 off of ebay or amazon. The CAT cable is also used to program the radio.

Just ordered the Radioddity branded version of this radio, they were having a sale on their site, figured why not. :D Got an email saying it's out of stock, and expecting a shipment in 2 weeks. Guess I'll wait.

Along the lines of homebrew antennas, we made some J-poles years ago out of 1/2" copper pipe, which, in the "before time" was fairly inexpensive. I'm thinking if I'm going to make something again, I'll use PVC to support a wire inside of it.
