    What am I hearing?

Anyone know what "dit-dit-dah" is, in Morse Code? A letter is being repeated over and over. Is it a bouy or navagation number for a guide beacon? Edit: I just looked up Morse code on Wiki, abd it appears to be the letter "U."

Do shops not want my business?

Patience is the name of the game. What are you going to do if you get your radios, and nobody answers you for a few minutes? Email is faster than USPS letters.

    donkey fart & echo board.

It might be because of wise asses with noise toys, that CB gets it's rep as a ghetto frequency. What is the purpose of transmitting such garbage? Spend the money on V_Tec emblems for you car, you get more horse power that way.

    Any FCC busts for DXing?

From what I read, it is a low priority, and always has been. Just like cops do, FCC inspectors use a lesser charge as probable cause to get a search warrant, looking for anything illegal. But, the only person I know that got a visit for shooting skip, was a guy running illeagal power. He was...

    142 GTL

Yeah, i clipped the talkback resistor a minute ago. I am going to run a Turner +3, that I had on another 142 years ago. It works on my 148 real well. I got it with that talkback resistor, it seems you need a capacitor in the "circuit: somewhere, but there are kits that wpork without problems...

    142 GTL

I'm using the standard Cobra Mic, and so is the one I substituted. Now, it only makes the noise if the built in Dynamike, witch is a mike gain, is turned up all of the way. I'm thinking a capacitor is dried out, it works OK, otherwise. The pot seems OK, but the On/off pot is getting replaced...

    142 GTL

Ok, I tried a differerent mic, first. No dice. The one mod I saw, that can cause this, is that there is a resistor soldered to the PA and output speaker jacks. (idiot talkback) The squeal goes away, if I use an external speaker, as I was going to, anyway. The only problem now, is if you...

    142 GTL

I just got a !42 GTL, it has not been unlocked, or otherwise messed with. The only thing wrong, is I get a LOUD squeal when I key up. Watts and modulation almost smack the corner, But SWRs are fairly flat, when I turn down the Dynamike. I am using the stock mic, nothing else. I'll bet it is...

    Project 2000

So what if the plastic busing with a screw were to not be centered, and the ridge worn? That causes the plate of the driver, which is the collector, to short out. The driver would immediately short. But it doesn't on mine, it degrades, so I think the worn bushing is off center enough to allow it...

    Project 2000

I had good SWR's when the radio was working. When the power went down, I couldn't even set the SWRs. If I put new finals in, it all comes back to spec. I need to find the reason they go out. I'm thinking maybe the regular to the finals, but am not sure.Or, the antenna, which could have a bad...

    Project 2000

I finally got this 2000 GTL in specs, and working. But, the finals don't last long. It seems like a powerhouse, then after a few days, it degrades to almost no output. When I change the finals, it wakes up. I have been using a Dosy TFC-3001 meter. Yes, I know some of you don't like a Dosy, but...

    What am I hearing?

How far from an airport are you? Are you in a flight path, for take off or landing? It could be tower transponders and the signals may be for navigation. Sometimes, certain bouys in large waters use transponders instead of light houses. It depends on where you live.

    Antenna height vs skip angles

This thread may have answered a question I had. For a long time, this guy has been raising and lowering his antenna tower. It is a telescopic type crank up, that folds over when all of the way down. He cranks it up for a few days, then lowers it for a day or two. He is a Ham, and I don't know...

    Alternators???

It is one of the most effective ways to pick up some power lost to things like stock alternators that have a high demand and cause drag, and power streering, and AC. I put in an under drive pulley set from Mac, and the "butt dyno" did feel the difference. On a real dyno, it does show a...

Meter swinging backwards on Cobra 29 ltd

Try this. When adjusting the cils for forward swing, play this 1000Hz tone I found on youtube. Just hold the keyed mic up to one of your computer speakers, and turn the slugs for the highest reading. It is like having a free tone generator. Test Signal - 1000 hz sine wave - YouTube
