1967 or 68, parents got an old White Faced Johnson with 4 channels in it. Had a home made ground plane made out of 102" whips on the roof. My dad got one of those CB's that looked like a telephone for my mom's car, and a bumper mounted 102" whip. My mom hated the radio and that got traded off...
Looks good! I really like the audio quality of the Flex receiver. I use a pair of cheap, powered speakers and they sound great. I have been thinking about getting something
a bit better. But, for now, what I have works.
I don't have the choppy audio issues you are experiencing. But, I am also...
It could be something as simple as a dirty button contact. Or a component failure.
If you are comfortable with using a multimeter, you can download the schematic from
CBTricks and follow the circuit for the roger beep.
Also, if the radio has been modded in any way, someone might have used the...
Ouch! I've done such things to myself in the past. Hope it heals quickly.
(oh, and get some help next time)
Congratulations on the Flex 5000. I bought myself a Christmas present just before
the end of the year. (and work slowed down) I have been interested in SDR and was looking at getting a...
Mobile or base setup? Either way, it sounds like RF getting back into the radio.
Could be bad cables or a ground problem. Check all your cables and connections
as well as ground from the radio, amp and antenna. Loose connections can do the
same thing.

Not fond of Noise Toys on CB and certainly not on Amateur Radio. Although, I have heard some people using them on the bands. Usually , it's just like on CB, it is intended to annoy others. And it works too.
I cannot imagine why anyone, Amateur op's or CB'ers would like them. Other than the...
A simple dipole cut for 10 meters will work fine since you only have a single band radio.Or you could build a ground plane antenna too. If you have something like the MFJ-259b Antenna Analyzer, you can go ahead and built
a multi-band fan dipole. That way, you can trim the antenna properly and...
Never saw that on any rig I have owned. (well, maybe on a drifting Swan HF rig) I have owned a ton of Amateur rigs over the years(38+) and have never
seen one off frequency like that. If it were then people would be chasing each other up and down the band(s). Even on CB rigs, that I have had...
The reason the factory has the ALC in the circuit is to prevent distortion of the audio and the transmission of unwanted spurs up and down the band. Clipping the ALC out is a common practice in a lot of hack shops. Then it seems, it's all controls/knobs to the right.
You might sound good and...
Saw your ad when you originally posted it here. I have intended to ask what mods have you done to the radio? The 50/200 watt mod, I'm guessing is changing the output on AM & SSB. How old is the radio? Does it have the newer display with the black lettering?

But, how old is the final? That radio, as I'm sure you know, has been out of
production for a long time. Components age and get weaker with time. Even when not in use.

You probably have a broken trace , bad solder joint, or poor ground.
Pushing down on the circuit board and it correcting the problem is your
clue.

Congratulations on getting the Little Tarheel II. I have one mounted on the driver's side mirror on an 18 wheeler(2007 Kenworth Day Cab). I have both the 32" and the 54" whips.
With the 54" whip, I can only get it to tune to 12 meters. SWR too high on 10 meters.
(well, my Kenwood TS-480SAT's...
