Just bit the bullet & picked me up one of these lil gems while @ the Dayton Hamvention for a whopping $40!! Lovin it so far 8-) Mine is a model # UV-5RA also. Xtra battery was only $8 & the programming cable was $6!! Can't beat that. The RA model has a chrome faceplate around the speaker area...

Don't know what they're called either but,they're a one of a kind plug!! Def not the same as the 257,sidewinder,or roadpro. It IS the same DC cord for the SuperStar 4900B base tho. Again,good luck finding them. I've even looked all over at the Dayton Hamvention for several years now to no avail...

Midland 79-290 (SSB) would prolly fit the bill. Pretty shallow & front mount mic jack also. Not the best channel rejection but a decent lil radio IF you can find one. Xtra channels,weather channels,removable faceplate (like CD players) 8-)...

I got one here. Hasn't been used in prolly 10 years!! Used it for the power supply til I got an Astron 35M. Too many neighbors close by to use the amp section + I really don't care to use amps 8-) I should hook er up & see if she smokes!! LMAO

That SWR/Watt meter is for 3-30Mhz only. You're in the 144Mhz range with that rig and antenna so it's not gonna work properly. You need a meter specific to that freq range. Hope this helps ya somewhat 8-) 73's.Chris.W8CDF
