That sounds more like the Don I remember. I used to have him do all my Tech work years back before he closed his public shop along I-90 and "retired" to do the warranty work out of his home shop. He was always straight forward and didn't give you any BS. :thumbup1:
Doc-
I've done a lot of biz with R&L over the years and never had a problem. I'm fairly certain Megatron/Galvatron/Bandit mis-interpreted what he was told. Just my $.02, FWIW.
R&L doesn't cater to the average CB'er, per se. They handle the type accepted radios, Cobra, Midland, Uniden. Having dealt with R&L more times than I care to count, I assure you that any misunderstood communication is on your end. FWIW.
Last year I replaced a slightly damaged A99 (cracked f'glass) with a used Imax. Locally I picked up "about" 1/2 S unit or so, according to a reliable source. Exact same mounting scheme, same coax, etc. FWIW.
I don't know about DX performance, I use my directional arrays for that. Just my $.02.
Looks like a Swinger or Firebird amp, manufactured in IN years ago. Probably has 4 6JE6C's in a 1 driving 3 configuration. The adjustable model (which that is) had output from about 160W to about 210W, around 400 PEP.
I saw it mentioned earlier on another Forum that a guy in Australia could talk to his girlfriend in Japan as long as they both had their antennas in the sea.:thumbup1:
