I'm thinking carbon fibers come in varying levels of electrical conductivity depending on how they're made. Certainly not a great antenna material. I've heard of guys having antenna issues when using carbon fiber as masts but have no experience first hand. For all I know there's a ground wire...
When it gets stuck in a transmit loop, unplugging the unstuck radio doesn't stop the loop. I tried some filters at the middle and ends of the wire with no effect. However, when they are right next to the box, the thing seems to work pretty well.
I like them for cheap fun "tactical" close range fun. Get a couple. A Yaesu would probably do better for real actual amateur use. With a low cost ChiCom for Ham stuff, get a better antenna for sure. We have a few guys on the nets use them successfully.
I recall seeing these things on on I-80; Iowa or Illinois I think. They would appear in my peripherial vision spinning at the same rate as my forward motion making it seem like I was standing still or moving backwards. Had to squint to drive safetly. If RF's getting out, it may indicate loss...

These guys checked the length of the wind turbine blade, then calculated it's resonant frequency and multiples it may emit or reflect RF at. Might be revealing to use an RTL-SDR and SDR# free software on a laptop and point a portable yagi...
I bet that's exactly how it works. I found that transmitting cts tone to the system helps it kick into transmit quicker so it won't chop off the first word spoken. Volumes have to be a 100% or the PTT goes to 50 ohm or so not 0 ohms like it should to trigger the mic. It has a tendency for one...
Been experimenting. Anybody familiar with what schematic would be close to what's hidden inside this cheap little Chinese HT repeater box? There's no documentation, and it's glued into plastic. Seems to key mic with zero ohms on the base of the plugs by presence of audio signal. There's a...
My 2 meter ringo vertical, and A99 10/11 meter vertical, are about 15 feet apart and don't seem to mind. I only use one at a time. The A99 does seem to show higher swr due to a tree 20 feet away during the summer when the leaves are thick. It's all compromise, and an understanding how...
My friend is planning a radio shack addition on the back of his house and was wondering if steel studs could be inferior to wood. Could they pickup and radiate stray RF etc.
(I tried to google it, but internet searches are increasingly lacking these days unless one wants to buy something.)
Anybody know of any way to correct side band distortion of close stations in the Lincoln II+? I'm dead on frequency, and far stations sound great. Close stations just sound distorted and turning the gain down doesn't seem to change anything.
I remember guys who could talk all night about evolution. It's really boring. The Truth about many things is complicated and takes efforts to understand and is often quite dull when discovered.
Makes sense since those two bands are what folks are tuning for. Wish antron-99 had the same thing since the trim data in their manual is incorrect and it's difficult to switch back to 11 after trimming for 10. I trimmed my 99, 4" less than the manual said, and it put me perfectly at 28.410...
Works. Works great. Audio RX and TX is pretty good!! Building the connector was challenging to say the least due to tinsel wires.
black - ground
red - mic
green - go (transmit)
white - handset ear speaker
Looks like a handset speaker is like 1500 ohms, while the radio speaker is 8 ohms. Trying to figure out how to switch back and forth quickly, or slowly (fader) between handset and radio speaker. Perhaps an external switch or rheostat tapped into the speaker wires. Think the pot would need to...
Regular text font was smaller. I went in my personal settings and made it bigger. Still smaller, but workable for now for sure. No pain, no gain. Upgrades part of the game for sure.
I'd like to use an H-250 Mic with a CB (Lincoln II+). Not sure if Rx audio is available on pin 4 of the mic cable. Also considering a speaker/earpiece limiter/fader if I need to use the speaker output. Any thoughts or experiences overall. Or guesses of what R values might be needed etc...
