Brand new to ham radio. Help please.

First thing you MUST DO is download the manual and study it. The preselect control also tunes the recieve to the band you are trying to listen to. Also, be very careful because the radio contains lethal voltages, and will kill you. Improper tuning WILL kill the radio.( Finals are very expensive)...

Worse Case Scenario - Lightning Strike?

Has anyone here ever heard of a car antenna, or any vehicle on rubber, ever getting hit by lightning? :confused1:

antron 99 vs shakespear big stick

The above is absolute CRAP. I have two big sticks now, and one has been up on my tower for 30+ years without any problems, through sever winters, and has handled a KW without any problems. The other is on my other house, and was in service in Fla for many years, through hurricane weather many...

    Antenna Through Roof Of Car

Much better design. The saw blade would only have cracked the roof around its perimeter from flexing. Good job.

    outdoor antenna E5/G5 Grundig

You dont need anything fancy. Just solder an alligator clip to a long piece of wire,( any wire) clip it to your telescoping antenna and throw it over your roof or into a nearby tree. Instant receive. If it is noisy, throw it into a different tree.Or onto the neighbors roof. Or up the flagpole...

Well, several things here. If it receives anything, it will receive on all bands. Sideband does not have a deadkey.( carrier) So it wont show anything when you key. Also, dont key up into anything but a 50 ohm dummyload. You will both be breaking the law and probably blowing the finals. As was...

I will try to restate. Don't do anything until you have downloaded the manual and read it cover to cover. Twice. It will explain how to set the radio up, settings... etc. and how to see if it is working. You need the manual!!! You dont even know that there is a problem with the radio...

M400 STARDUSTER OWNERS: Poll & Info please.

One of my favorite antennas back then was a 1/4 wave gp they used to call a "droopy drawers" for the way the radials drooped, but it was stone simple, pretty much bullet proof, stood up to ANY weather conditions, and worked fairly well to boot. Not a world beater, sorta like a AP or SD, very...

    American 4 meter band?

Well, it comes from experience. Where I live 10m, 11m, 6m, 2m, 70cm, are virtually unused. I can find activity on one channel on 11m, none at all most of the time on 10m, 2 meters might have one or to useful repeaters, and forget 440. And the 2 meter users are the same 4 or 5 people all of the...

Worse Case Scenario - Lightning Strike?

You can not protect AGAINST a strike, but as Booty says, you can take steps to reduce the damage incurred when you do take a hit. I myself don't worry about it much, but I do disconnect my equipment when storms are near. But remember, lightning can and does occur on clear, sunny days, too.

Sounds like you might want to download and read the manual before you do anything else. The 757 is a good radio, but as was stated earlier, HF rigs are not like a cb, and you need to know how to run one before you use it. Might not be anything wrong with it.

It looks like Apple needs to hire some new antenna engineers

Just saw a blurb about this on tv last night, and it appears that Jibs cure for the problem is to give any owner who asks a free rubber band type of cover that goes around the outside perimeter of the phone. By the way, I just love the "we miscalculated the way the bars are displayed"...
