I had a ft-530. Sold it for some stupid reason. I now use a Yaesu VX-2 and a FT-60. Both give no problems. The VX-2 isn't powerful but the local repeater is GREAT. I can hit it on low power (100mw) from inside the house 15 miles away from the tower. :)
I keep a FT-60 mounted on my motorcycle. I bought a "headset" like this http://tinyurl.com/ybbv77 on ebay. No mic boom,The mic is built into the ear piece. It has a seperate PTT button with a velcro strap that I wrap around the handlebars. It's not "Broadcast " quality TX audio but it works and...
I had a Icom 251A for a while. They can be found cheap. Neat radio but no tones and TX audio was weak. A Turner +3 desk mic helped a bunch. I think the Heil for Icoms would have been even better. Only 10W out but that was enough to drive a small amp. Wasn't much ssb activity around here so I...
That is exactly why I haven't been over there in a long time. It's a shame those messages are public. Alot of folks will view that stuff and think it's the majority of Hams instead of a small bunch of idiots with no life and nothing to do but gripe at each other. Gives Amateur Radio a bad name. :(
Thanks guys. Boy yall are bringing back memories. Skeeter, Was nice meeting you. Glad to see the tower is getting used, I sold the other one to the local club here and as far as I know it's still sittin in the weeds. What a waste. :( Nightrider, I don't remember the brand of radio but I...
Wow that was a while back. I've traded in the Lincoln for a Rolls Royce aka Kenwood TS-850. I don't even remember who I sold the Lincoln to. It was a good rig.
Hehehe My ears were burning and had to come back. There goes the neighborhood....See what you did?:D I don't remember the date but I think I was like the second or third one to join the forum when Dean started it.
The Kenwoods will blow away the Yaesu. I've had a few Yaesus, still have a FT-990 for a back up rig and they are good rigs but the slope tune on the Kenwoods is the best. I've had a chance to use both the new Orion and the Icom 7800 in heavy traffic for several hours and the old Kenwoods hold...
Just thought I would stop in and say happy hollidays to everyone. I see lots of the "old timers" are still here. Dang I even see post from Dealer. Heck John I thought you dropped off the face of the earth! Looks like this town has cleaned up a bit. Hats off to the law men.
