    10 m beam 3 to 4 elm

how about a group design effort? Al, just list the inter-element spacings for the ant you are considering, and the part of 10m you intend to use. I have a yagi design program called ym311, I am sure there are many others. perhaps I or someone else will make suggestions for element...

    noise figure of mixers

is there someone here that can help me understand the difference between the dsb and ssb noise figures, and more importantly, in a typical situation, which applies. the typical story is that NF is usually about 0.5 db worse than conversion loss. ( hard to put into writing here)...

    FM broadcast... tubes for hams

I have been away from the electronics industry for a long time. A quick internet-search look at commercial FM transmitters shows, power output up to 1KW or so. or I missed some. what's going on at higher powers? what happens to pulled tubes? 3-500 4-400 4-1000 (glass, remember...

    Activity???

low orbit repeaters are kinda stupid. I have seen numerous, visible at dusk satellites. (never by ham radio, btw) they move fast, visible a few minutes. now put 2 people in 2 different locations. no thanks, OK for a 6th grade science fair project, I guess

    very old Icom IC-02AT

drag...thanks for your comments ok, its a low serno, 9 thousand. where is this supposed lithium battery? all I can do is remove the back plate. looking from the back, there is a 'flex' circuit-connector-thing on the left. so there is another circuit card? yuc. help. all comments...

    very old Icom IC-02AT

applied 12vdc to an old Icom ic-02at, that was disused for many years. makes static noise, and display flashes '60'. squelch does not quiet. no other response was noticed. is there some secret code, to wake it up?, or its junk?

    Russian Tubes and QRO Parts

UR4LL, or anyone else. certain tubes, the maximum CW anode voltage on the spec sheet seems ridiculously low. GU-84b, GU-74b, GS-23b ... gu-84b GU-84b, ... max cw, 2.2 kv ..... really? for a tube with a 2500W anode dissipation? 73.

    5/8 wave coil

does anybody know the driving point impedance of a 5/8 over a ground plane? I assume the Z is something like (series equivalent) 50 ohm in series with a capacitance, but who knows. is there anything magical about 5 divided by 8?

    new and clueless

Shayne. in most places, you need to be a ham in your own country, before you try to get a license in some other country. even then, visiting hams are disliked by most countries because they think you are ...---> smuggling, or some other crime, or.. trying to avoid paying $$$ to the...

440 FM rx-noise figure, what is good enough?

OK, after some research, my new question is ... what is the effective noise temperature of an antenna for 440 mhz? half of the antenna pattern looks at the earth, which is effectively a black body radiator at 290K.and half of the pattern looks at the sky, which is much RF colder. or...

440 FM rx-noise figure, what is good enough?

for 440 Mhz FM, suppose you had 5 db of feedline loss, with a preamp, --> noise figure of 7 or 8 db.. in a real situation, is that good enough or not? what would be equivalent sensitivity? 73

    tower mounted booster

Cpt. KW at minimum, I would like it to have RX pre-amp for 440-450, plus a 'thru' for Tx 50w or so for 2M/440. the switching for 440 would need to be automatically switched. 2M pre-amp would be nice. Rx pre-selection filtering for HAM FM bands only, would be nice, but that is...

    tower mounted booster

coax run would be, approaching 100 feet. what I would eventually like to have, is hardline for, HF, and VHF horiz polarized, switched at the top and, completely separate, 2M and 440, FM vert polarized omni antenna. options for the latter would be... tower mounted booster, no such...
