I have a Yaesu FL-2000b that works other than the input SWR is high on 20m and in outer space on 10m. I was able to get 80m, 40m and 15m all below 2:1. 20m I can't get below 3.5:1 and 10m is so high it's hard to tell if it's 6:1 or more. I've focused on 10m so far since it's the worst. Both of...
The FRG-7 and FL-101 mute in reverse. The FL-101 mutes when the contact is ungrounded and the FRG-7 mutes when the contact is grounded. The FL-101 uses Pin 10 for this. The FRG-7 is forced to share Pin 9 with the amp key. The problem with this scenario is that there is 9vdc present at the muting...
Yeah the problem is that all it says in the alignment instructions is "Check AM power to attain between 6-12W rf power." For FM it calls out adjustment RV117 and SSB RV116 to adjust power out. No call out for AM. Unless I missed something they are of no help.
Thank you. Yeah unfortunately I haven't had luck with the cb tricks stuff. I've been working from that. You're right about the carrier. I pulled those numbers from some web page. The rf power adjustment works in FM (1-18 watts) and SSB but AM is stuck at 22 watts, which as you said, is 7...
I have a MAGNUM Omegaforce s45HP that I acquired a while back that works perfectly fine except for two issues. The first is no modulation with the stock mic. I'm going to ignore this issue for the time being until I can verify the mic works. The radio works fine with the cobra mic connector...
I downloaded the FL-101 manual right now and it appears to show ground at pin 8 and the center line at 10. If the ACC plugs on the FL-101 and the FT-101E are the same then that's where they should be. A ham I know finally got back to me (ironically) and he's going to check his tomorrow and get...
Does anyone now what ACC pins on the FT-101E are used for muting an external receiver i.e. FL-101, FRG-7 etc? The manual doesn't specify...at least not that I can find.
Thanks
I know it has been several months but I figured I'd post an update. I've been chasing ghosts. It has a 19 watt carrier and just shy of 100 watts PEP. With the +/- 8% margin of error of the Bird meter it could be slightly higher or lower.
As Nomadradio stated I would exceed the 150mA threshold...
This is just a quick question about antenna selection on the Yaesu FRG-7. On other receivers like the Drake R8 or the Kenwood R-1000 you have the ability to choose between two antennas (antenna A and antenna B). A switch on the Kenwood and a button on the Drake for instance. So, how does that...
It could still be simple coincidence. Why I experienced no issue last night except for that momentary interference as opposed to the other night when it was prolonged I don't know. I'm not going to rule the radio out as the cause yet but it looks more likely to be external to the radio. Far...
I think I've isolated the problem to the external fan on the heat pump unit....or it's at least 1 potential cause. The radio ran fine for several hours tonight. It then experienced the hum during transmit. It seemed to coincide with the external heat pump kicking on. I'll need to explore this...
Killing the mic gain kills the hum from what I recall. I didn't do that last night when I checked but I'm pretty sure that was the result when I was checking on air with help from another. I probably should have mentioned that. I'll reconfirm but I'm confident this is the case.
If it's on FM it is faint or non existent. It seems to be more pronounced on AM. The general description consensus is that it sounds like I have a fan running in the background or buzzing while transmitting. I know it's not a result of the mic picking up background noise though because it occurs...
Unfortunately I'm not sure if it's 60 or 120 hz but mic gain had no affect on strength, prevalence or pitch. I don't believe the carrier affected it either but I'll need to confirm that with someone on air. I have a video that was taken on air by someone for me but it won't allow me to attach...
I have an FT-101E that's been recapped, aligned, and has a strong set of tubes that have been neutralized and put out full output on all bands. Everything is operational except for a pronounced hum on transmit. I was hoping for some insight on how I should proceed in tracking down the source or...
Thank you for that Nomad. One last question if I could. I have a pretty substantial harmonic 210 kHz away from the transmitted frequency. Is this typical of a radio from this vintage or am I looking at an alignment issue of some sort? Initially I followed the procedure to peak the trimmers with...
