    FT-101E LSB is off frequency

Nomad thank you for that. So what is the proper way to zero beat the rig if you can't hear WWV? Is it to simply peak the S-meter with the 100Khz or 25Khz markers while in the proper mode (USB, LSB or TUNE) or do you do what this guy did? One of the comments said his method is incorrect so...

    FT-101E LSB is off frequency

Nomad I appreciate the information. This is more than likely what is occurring. I verified that the crystals are on their respective frequencies at pin 6 of PB1184A. 3178.3 for USB and 3181.6 for LSB. Perhaps you can teach a new dog some old tricks regarding zero beating the rig when you...

Thank you very much! That was the info I needed. It is very much appreciated.

    FT-101E LSB is off frequency

I need some guidance regarding LSB on an FT-101E. It transmits and receives approximately 3.25 -3.5 khz above the given frequency. This was confirmed over the air as well as with a seperate radio nearby. USB and AM transmit and receive correctly. I can't find anything in the service manual that...

    Regency Range Gain low modulation

I wanted to update my update. The radio is now keying 1 watt on channel 20 at 27.206.45. Apparently the 7.5 MHz crystal is only activated when the mic is keyed and that 7.25 value is some transient signal of some sort.

    Regency Range Gain low modulation

I wanted to post an update now that I have some new tools in my arsenal. I acquired a Tektronix 2236 oscilloscope and it has proven to be helpful. I was able to confirm several things that I observed with the VNA. The internal frequency counter on the scope is extremely helpful and is close if...

    2 locations 1antenna

Yeah that's what my concern/ question was related to. I'll need to pick one up and then run the VNA on it before, after and then from both locations. Depending on the results I'll then run a little power through it and steadily step it up. I was hoping that someone had some experience with this...

    2 locations 1antenna

There will only be one radio connected to any of the coax lengths as stated in my initial post. One end will always be capped. Maybe if I explain my installation it'll make more sense. To start I use window access which means when the coax isn't in use it's capped and in an outside waterproof...

It looks like no one has any experience with a tee so I'll just pick one up and try it...

    2 locations 1antenna

See something like that would work if it could operate in reverse.

    2 locations 1antenna

It's not about being "lazy." It's about the length of coax required. If I can switch it at the antenna, or not switch it at all i.e. a tee, the length of run to one location is 30 ft and the other is 100. By running it to one location first and then the other I'm significantly increasing the run...

    2 locations 1antenna

Unfortunately that requires manual activation at one of the locations which is what I'm looking to avoid. I'm looking for something that can split the coax near the antenna. I've heard duplexers mentioned however I'm not sure if they're applicable to me situation. Also most marketed duplexers...

    2 locations 1antenna

Are you referring to a remote switch (located at the antenna) or a manual switch like a Daiwa that you manually switch? The coax needs to split near the antenna so the later wouldn't work. It would require an ungodly amount of coax to run from the antenna to location 1 and then to location 2. I...

    2 locations 1antenna

I would like to be able to operate the same antenna from an upstairs location as well as a downstairs location. Only one location would ever be in use at a time. The unused coax would be disconnected and capped. Would a simple tee do the trick or is there something better? Also, if a tee is used...

    FT-101E Output Debate

New Toshiba tubes (NOS). I also have a NOS set of NEC'S with the same output. Two different driver tubes as well. No difference with any of them. Radio has been recapped. All Nichicon caps. This is what I get in tune on them. 160m 1.9 90 watts 80m 3.7 140 watts 40m 7.150 140 watts 20m 14.175...

    FT-101E Output Debate

Understood. I never claimed to be an expert. Far from it. There wouldn't have been any reason to ask the question if that were the case.

    FT-101E Output Debate

Your 11 meter statement is incorrect. It includes an 11m crystal from the factory that covers 27-27.5 MHz with an 11 meter marking on the band selector switch. The mod to enable transmit on 11 meter is snipping the brown wire on the 11 meter band switch. You could go your alternative which is...

    FT-101E Output Debate

I appreciate your wisdom Nomad. So, without 11 meter burn, is it possible i.e. I owe him an apology lol...or is it not possible while maintaining the recommended 150mA i.c.? I'm skeptical that he isn't overdriving that radio to achieve that (if he's achieving that at all) but then again my...

    FT-101E Output Debate

This is a general question about AM output on an FT-101E. I had a discussion with a local yokel that claimed that he can get his FT-101E to key 20 watts while keeping it at the recommended 150mA i.c. and that it'll swing to 100 watts PEP using an amplified D104. I called BS. He's doing it on 11m...

    Regency Range Gain low modulation

I just wanted to post a quick update about where I am at the moment. Guitar_199 hooked me up with some instructions on how to build an rf sniffer and how to use it with the VNA to check the oscillators. I was also able to max their output or align their output across all 23 channels. As it...
