Vinyl siding on a wood framed house, so I should be ok there. I was just worried that not having any radials, or only 1 or 2 on 1/4 of the circumference of the antenna would be bad.

For the price of the china HT's, buy two, if they're for emergency use, might as well have a spare. If something happens and you destroy one, you'll have a back up and won't be out $3-400.

The most common will be made by uniden or GRE, they both have a couple models that are analog/digital. From what I've read neither brand decodes P25 very well though. Easiest way to tell if it does digital is the price, nothing under $350 (new) will do digital is a good rule of thumb.
