Will keep you updated. I've been working on making it as beefy and lightweight as possible. Have not made any "electrical" connections yet, I am going to leave it up as is for a few days as we are supposed to get some wind and storms and want to see how it does.:thumbup1:

and more pictures.
Photo 1 is the original support (sagging bad)
Photo 2 is the extended support (much better)
Photo 3 is the ground radials. They are 6' aluminum tomato stakes which i ran 102" of 14ga copper wire down the length and it extends about 2' off the ends.
Well after a couple of weeks experimenting with an end fed wire antenna for 11 meters and trying to get the matching cicuit right (and fighting with my OCD ) I have started the "final" design of my vertical ground plane antenna. Once I got the matching circuit right (photo 1), I ended...
Doc,
Those photos were taken in the garage before the antenna went up. There are no radials but the antenna is grounded to a grounding rod in the ground. I put the RF choke on because once I got the best match I could on Ch. 20 I checked it on Ch. 1 and Ch. 40 and it was the same on all 3...
Well, I made some changes and this is what the final design is per suggestions (see attachments).
Now for the initial tests.... I started with the coil shown (10 turns at 1.5" diameter) taped at the second turn of the coil SWR is up over 3:1. Made several more adjustments in the tap point and...
After some thought i decided not to go after a 2000 since I already have a 148gtl side mic which I've been using mobile on a daily basis and also set it up as a base when I'm not working (truck driver).
I ended up getting a Galaxy 88 HTL and got it for $200.00 and it is good shape.
Thanks...
Thanks Homer, I've read that post several times. I'm going to change it around when I get off work in the morning and post results tommorow sometime.
Thanks for bearing with me and your help. :thumbup1:
Doc,
If I am correct your second suggestion would require knowing the exact diameter and number of turns of the coil to obtain a correct match.
It sounds like your first suggestion would be "adjustable" over the length of the coil which could ultimately lead me to sugestion number 2...
I am fooling around with building a .64 wave vertical and I'm trying to wrap my head around setting up the matching coil. This is in the very rough stages (basically a 22ft. solid 12ga.wire connected to a SO239) and I want to know if I'm getting the basic theory right. I know there will be alot...
I'm looking at buying a base and would like to have a Cobra 2000 GTL and found several on ebay.
What would you guys pay for one in very good to excellent condition and would you buy stock or a radio that has been modded. Of course accessories have alot to do with price such as mic and...
Thanks.......I raised it 5 feet and moved the coax a little but the SWR went to 3:1 on the whole band. I think the thing needs to be horizontal....won't that make it directional? I'll have to bring it down and rework the design but that's the fun part.

The paint is that spray...
That's why I'm asking if I might have issues because the reading is exactly the same on all channels. I think I'm going to raise it another 5 feet an move that coax around and see what happens.
I just got my homemade copper pipe dipole up and hooked up. I checked the SWR on the ground before it went up to get it close and had it at 1.5:1. Checked it after it went up and now I have 2:1 on channels 1, 20, and 40. Some issues I'm concerned with:
1: Do I have it high enough...the radiator...
I have a 15 year old 148gtl and am getting an intermittent rx drop out. I am zeroing in on TR2 (2SC1675L) and am not getting the voltage readings listed in the service manual.
Questions:
1. The only reference to TR2 in the maual is on the sound tracker board...are these the values to use...
