Sounds like you have a Cap going bad in the audio amp. as current passes through it it gets hot and expands internally causing a dead short (the buzzing noise) as it cools it contracts making contact again allowing the audio to pass.
I had two of those over the years. Both where high strung and didn't receive worth a Dam. I gave one to a neighbor and a stranger stole the other one + all my gear and the shack. I 'm still laughin at his stupidity he got a real mud duck in a drafty shack with bad plumbing.

I can take the heat so flame on..... A D104 IMO is about the worst choice for a Mic especially for use on SSB. I have never understood the appeal & love affair for Power mics on radios. A high quality Dynamic mic with a range from 50- 15,000 hrtz has much better sound & tonal quality with no...
Sounds to my like a low voltage issue. Where are you getting the power for the amp and how is it grounded? What Coax are you using for a jumper from the radio to the amp?
I didn't say they are unreliable but sometimes a mag mount will not make a good enough contact through the paint to allow the antenna to see the counterpoise well enough to get an acceptable SWR. An easy way to see if this is the problem is to run a temporary ground strap from a known ground on...
Mag mounts can be a real Sumbeach I never liked or had much luck with one. The main issues is getting it to see the vehicle to establish a proper counterpoise with out that you will never get the SWR's under control. Because you do not have a mechanical ground the magnet is being hampered by the...

Best fix>Build a Slip Seater Box! Or get a pack of mini bungi cords (truckers duct tape) Barjan used to sell a roll of velcro that was about 3 ft long and a 1/2" wide that had fuzz on one side & spikes on the other I have use both with equal success when I had to drive another mans truck before...
The old AS Droopy Drawers was a fantastic antenna I have seen it out preform Moonaker 6's and Stardusters leaving 'em scratch their heads & cursin like a sailor.

If your working strictly AM with your 148 Direct injection through C174 is the way to go. However if your using the sidebands it wont work because a 148 uses a BFO chip if you try to inject at pin one of the BFO chip you will be transmitting on both upper & lower side band simultaneously. So if...
