I agree with all of that except the part about the negative from the amp going to the battery.
When running amps you want to keep the grounds as short as possible. The longer a ground the more RF interference you are inviting.
This is what I was about to suggest. I was told a radio from a radiio controlled car and a few nine volts. Solder all the contacts from the joysticks together and it will lock the band down.
I am grounded on all 4 corners body to frame. And I did mention the engine to frame ground. I haven't done the alternator case yet. Haven't had the need.
