    Firebird

ABC, Apollo, Kris, Firebird and, Courier were makers of single band amps in the early '70 using the 6LQ6 - 6JE6 tubes; some were multi-band "Amateur" amplifiers. D & A (Delaney and Allen), Maco and, Varmit made bigger amps using the 6LF6 family of tubes. Maco was a large supplier of amps using...

    Firebird

Your amplifier is one of many "Knock-off" amps circa 1970; although the name may be different, they all had the same design. The amplifier has about 800 volts on the tubes and is operated Class A (no bias, all grids grounded), what you see is what you get, don't go trying to squeeze 10 more...

That was very "Diplomatic" of you.:thumbup1: <sniff-sniff>I smell Chicken.</sniff-sniff> IMHO, A station that is qualified to operate 160 meters (Licensed Extra, Advanced, or General) or capable (with a 160 meter dipole or full sized loop) would not be here asking questions that make them...

    Yagi on the Test Stand

Get a wooden ladder and prop the beam up on it vertically with the reflector end on the ground and then check the match. I would make note of where the match falls at it's lowest point. With the Gamma match set at half way (assumming that you you are feeding the antenna with even wave...

    Which is better??

Yes, and I have been in this Business long enough and have the sufficient experience to offer an informed opinion about an electron tube that I am currently using. Certainly, you value your opinion but, the GS-35b which is made in Russia will work as well a tube made in the US. The GS-35b is...

    Which is better??

The price of an 1200A7 tube makes that a bad choice to build around. The YC-156 is a great idea but the GS35b is the way to go. there is no 1200A7 . com or 8877 . com but, there is a GS-35B GS35B Russian Triode Tube,Socket and Teflon Chimney - Linear Amp Project - HF, VHF, UHF Amplifier -...

    Astron RS-70A power supply

Let me see....... Increase of 7/10 of one volt @ 70 amps equals 49 more watts capability Efficiency of your load, 50%; net difference is 24.5 watts more output. Getting 25 more watts out of a 100 watt radio, useless! Running 25 more watts into your previously saturated SS device, senseless...

No it does not. Beyond replacing the the fuse (pg. 56) and adding the optional filters, there is just enough information for the screwdriver jockies to mess up a good radio (pg.63). On what page do you see a user adjustable recommended setting for the internal transmit control pots? The...

Bleeding power out of tube amp??

While you guys were busy telling him how to stick a screw driver in and possibly send a spike back to his rectifiers and weaken them, I took the trouble of looking at the circuit and saw that it is built without the benefit of balancing resistors or a bleeder-load resistor (I build ALL my B+...

Bleeding power out of tube amp??

AFTER you have taken their advise about how to short the high voltage out, do this: Locate the B+ end of the capacitor string and solder a couple of 25 kilohm (strung in series to make 50 Kilohm) from there to ground, that will instantly end the need to manually bleed it down.
