Same here. I find it interesting to read about the experiences of others. It's also nice to be able to read articles about rigs I haven't had the opportunity to play with. I don't expect you to be the last word on something...nor do you ever claim to be the last word.
You put a lot of...
Thanks to all for the responses. I kind of figured the 148/grant would win out here. I probably should have been even more specific and said..."which ssb radio has the best AM audio"? I've had many radios over the years and the Uniden chassis radios are still at the top of the list for me...

Title says it all...not exports, but CB's and allowing for the fact that there may be some considered best quality and some the best quantity.
List one or two of your top candidates.

Great sounding rig on AM...OK on ssb.
I prefer them to 2995's if you are primarily an Am talker.
If you do a lot of ssb, then the 2995 is the way to go
in a high powered base station. Although at that price
point, I'd be looking at a ham rig.

Don't know if I'd classify myself as "in the know", but I own one of the new mosfet 959's. They tune up to about 25pep with a simple tune. They modified the circuit...and so the "modules" you used to have to put in with the 2030 final are longer needed. BTW, they use an IRF520 mosfet for the...
Galaxy is in the process of replacing all of the 1969/2312 dual finals with IRF520 mosfets due to cost and availability. They have even done it with the radios like the 959. I stumbled across one in a trade and it did almost 30 watts just turning it up. I would "guess" that the 2517 would do...
The nb/anl circuits on different radios are not the same.
There is not radio that will totally remove the type of
noise you get from the number of computers that are used
in many stores, but I have had the best results from Cobra 148's and grant xl's.
I haven't found magnums to work as...
I contacted Shawn via email with a question about what recourse I had regarding problems with my 440hp since I was the second owner even though the radio was less than a year old. I didn't expect them to stand behind it at all, since I was not the original purchaser.
I was pleasantly...
It's more a matter of how the radio has been tuned and the nature of the filtering in the radio. I'm sure either DTB or 8541 can do a good job of aligning the radio both on transmit and receive. You can also beef up the filtering with a channel guard kit from CBC international.
At the end...
Wow...wish I had known that before I dumped the radio. Took it to an "approved" Cobra repair center and they told me first there was nothing wrong with it. After hearing it on the air, they "retuned" it, which did nothing for the problem, but made the low audio even weaker. Never a mention of...
I agree. There isn't a radio out there that someone hasn't had a problem with. If we listened to everyone who decided to bash a company or radio none of us would own radios. :P

While it will never be mistake for a well tuned general lee or on of the bigger galaxy's, my "doc-tuned" 2510 gets nothing but good reports on the AM audio as well as ssb.
YMMV

Tony....
I have mine keying 5 on low swinging pretty high...I think the low amc pot is bad...so I'm careful with it. right now, it's swinging about 75 watts on low and keying 30, swinging 125 on high. SSB is about 120 watts. Gets a little warm on long ssb qso's, but just warm to the...
Tony...sorry to hear it's been giving you headaches :(
I have one now (my second one) and haven't had any problems (knock on wood). I think the variable output problems may stem back to the very low quality smt pots they use for the amc and alc circuits. Sometimes they die if you try to...
