    11 meter is very quiet?

11 meters was hopping this afternoon. I'm on a boat with a walkie talkie hooked up to a 3' marine CB antenna and I'm hearing England, Hawaii, Calfornia, Texas, Maine, the midwest, etc. Of course, this rig can't compete with the big guns, but I did manage to connect with a station in Nashville...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Lots of Wisconsin and Minnesota stations coming in down here today. Good QSO with 988. When my barefoot TRC465 and marine CB antenna are connecting, you know the skip was hopping (on LSB 36, LSB 37 and LSB 38).

    11 meter is very quiet?

I must have been riding a specific arc because I spoke to several Michigan stations on my Shakespeare 5223 Marine CB antenna and the 12 watts coming out of my TRC 465. I also heard a guy talking about how he was pushing 400 watts, but I couldn't hear his neighbor the guy pushing a wimpy 100...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Skip was moderately strong around 11:30A.M. eastern this morning. LSB 37 was particularly active. It has dropped off noticeably right now. Looks like one of those days where we have in and out episodes.

Can someone explain why nobody uses upper sideband?

I recall talking to those folks a few times in the past. Glad to hear that they are still up and running. I'm going to make the effort to catch them. Thanks for the tip. There are still a few pockets of local SSB traffic on CB. It might be helpful if folks chimed in with information on...

Can someone explain why nobody uses upper sideband?

The zero frequencies are widely used in eastern Europe. If Nigel Tufnel were on WWDX, he'd tell us to unlock our clarifiers and turn them to 11. But here on WWDX, we still have plenty of operators - myself included - using relatively stock CB radios. They don't have VFOs, unlocked clarifiers...

Can someone explain why nobody uses upper sideband?

We've tried to get something going on USB 35 and USB 40. There was some success, but folks haven't kept it going.

    11 meter is very quiet?

Just heard you dominating LSB 36 about 15 minutes ago.

    11 meter is very quiet?

Just heard 399 JJ from Medellin, Colombia making a few contacts on LSB 36 around 3:15P.M. eastern time. There was a pile up of Canadian, Wisonsin and Michigan stations trying to get back to him.

    TRC-448 repairs

I had one of those many years ago. Matched up with a Turner +3, it was my base radio for many years. Great talker. Excellent unit. Rock solid on frequency. Audio quality with that Turner was superb. Folks would seriously modify these. Mine was kept 100% stock and never tweaked. Good luck.

    11 meter is very quiet?

JJ: You were just booming in on LSB 37around 5:05P.M. eastern time. The only down side is that you've got some distortion in your audio quality, but no station came in stronger. 828: I heard you too, but you apparently could not hear me trying to get back to you. My barefoot TRC-465 with...

    11 meter is very quiet?

It has been pretty quiet this early afternoon. Not much going on with LSB 38, but that 1-1-1-1... dummy keeps popping up. I'm hearing very little activity on LSB 37. The usual activity on LSB 39 and LSB 36 is just not there. It is a very tame day for 11 meter DX.

New petition for GMRS/FRS to use 30-50 MHz

I suggest we all just learn español. That would be easier and more useful than petitioning the FCC.

    11 meter is very quiet?

Conditions today were not particularly favorable. There wasn't a lot of traffic. However, I was hearing stations in Arizona and California. One California station was talking to someone in Hawaii. I was picking them up both, but nobody was hearing me and my barefoot base.

CB to GMRS mobile antenna Mod ?

I've got a Midland MXTA26 and the Luiton version. Excellent antennas.

    11 meter is very quiet?

11 meters was quiet out there. In the past, I had made some interesting contacts out on the water. I'll keep pushing my luck in the days to come.

    11 meter is very quiet?

I'm out on my boat at Dry Tortugas National Park. This park is set of islands 70 miles out in the middle of the ocean. I've got my SSB walkie talkie and a marine CB antenna, so I'm going to be giving some call outs this afternoon on USB 40.

CB to GMRS mobile antenna Mod ?

Get the measurement right and a straight forward 1/4 wave is the easier for the do-it-yourselfer. Matching network should not be needed when done right.

    5/8 wave starduster?

I understand a Starduster to be a 1/2 wave, center fed dipole. I've never heard of or seen a 5/8 wave version.
