How old is the battery? Maybe upgrade to a high output alternator and or high cca battery. Other thing to consider is doing what the 16 yo kids do with their stereos....put a cap in the radio circuit. It will store energy and give it to the radio when the fan kicks in and hopefully prevent it...
That only works if it's on a trunked system. If you never try to log into the trunked network and only use local repeaters or simplex freq it will never get the stun or kill command.
Elect fans DO draw almost that on start up. I had a 25 amp fuse in mine when I installed it in my Jeep and it blew the first time I turned it on. Got a 30 in there now and it's holding as long as I don't forget to turn in off for water crossings as the extra resistance will cause a currant spike...
Ahhh...now I see the sparks...err light :) You were trying to open it up to get into the amateur band area as well as the commercial band. I know the HT750 I have Frankensteined from 3 non working radios will work on the Ham band as well as the commercial band without having to hack it.
I...
Since Marine band freqs are all simplex and not using a repeater you could get away with a 3-5db gain omni antenna. It wont be as big of an eye grabber as a Yagi but it will still need to be up as high as you can practically get it to receive the best. The other thing to remember as well is that...
One other thing about Motorola radios...The VHF and UHF radios have completely different RF PA's and amps in them. Trying to get one to do the others freq band will most likely end up in a short life of the PA.
Your going to need elevation for the antenna and most likely have to switch to a Yagi type antenna which is a directional antenna. Mind you a Yagi for the VHF freq band is going to be 6-8 feet long.
Try this company....it's close to your location in your profile.
Motorola Two-Way Radio Dealer Los Angeles California Advanced Electronics, Inc.
I work for a communications company that deals in Motos and the boss man suggested trying to reflash the firmware. We've had a few radios come in that...
Does it still turn on? If you have a Motorola dealer in your area see if they can flash the newest firmware into it. If you send it back to Moto they are going to flat rate repair it which probably will be replacing the main board in it and it will end up costing you around 400 bucks. The cost...
Most of the newer smart phones as most newer phones in general use a passive antenna system. Razor 2's had a huge issue with the antenna port and the switch in them...they would stick in the external antenna position and wouldn't work at all once that happens and had to replace the port.

Thanks. I. Figured while I was at it I moved all my auxiliary lights and winch control to it as well. Added a dome light too since my old YJ don't have one when I have the soft top on.
Thanks...the Jeep overhead only took about a weekends worth of time to build and it's been working great.
I love that old Icom as well and it does have good ears...I can hear way more stations than I can talk to with only 100w out. I was looking at an Icom 781 for an upgrade but when I got to...
Nothing fancy for the base units...both hooked up to G5RV's.
This one is in my camper.
This one is in the house. There's a 2m rig on the shelf just over the monitors.
This is my 2m and CB in the Jeep. I built the overhead console entirely from scratch from aluminum and TIG welded it...
