I'd like to help my Grundig 800 a bit with background hash so I'd like to add a passive preselector to the antenna input to take some of the strain off the 800's front end.
So far I've narrowed it down to two preselectors.....The MJF-965 & the MJF 1046. The 956 is simple with the 1046 also...
The heck of it is for me is I can't climb ladders anymore. That said I'll try a ceiling perimeter wire before I spend any bucks, my wife can climb a short ladder to help. I do have a tendency to over think things at times.
Thank you again.
Ok, did a little more digging and came up with this.......
Winegard HD 6010 Omnidirectional FM Antenna (HD-6010) - Winegard - HD-6010 - 615798398125 - PR6010 PR 6010 PR-6010 HD-6010 HD6010 HD 6010
Looks like a possiblity along with the Apex for SWL.
Opinions please.:confused1:
Please...expand on what you mean by Outside AM antenna. If you mean a long wire I no can do. Don''t have the place to run long wire. Will a sinky work inside as well as a long wire?
I understand that the antenna end of SWL is trial & error most of the time while it is also part of the fun of the hobby. That said, I'm doing my research to decide what outboard antenna will work best on my Gundig 800. My concern is that I live in a rural county with no cities nearby and much...
Thanks to what I've learned here and elsewhere on the net , and from a few books I've read, I decided that best one radio for me and my needs was a Grundig satellit 800 port-a-top radio.
So I bought one.
Now I know to some here that is radio heresy but from what I've come to understand...
I'm not sure the brand of radio it was but it caught me off guard in my shopping for a radio that there were more than one kind of FM usage. That possibility just stunned me.
In other words......
Can I use one SW radio (that has FM band too) to listen to FM music or SW as I choose? Same goes for talk AM radio.:confused1: Or do I still need my portable for AM/FM
talk & music? (If I do that's ok too.)
Bear with me here since I'm still learning...OK?
Does the FM band on some SW radios receive the same FM as ordinary AM/FM radios do?
I ask because I "assumed" that FM is FM but tonight I found a radio that was able to pickup FM but it was NOT 'regular' FM that I'm used to. What :confused1:
Does computer WI FI affect the SWL/HAM radio frequency's?
I ask because we have a fairly powerful wi fi in our home to service the multiple computers we need for my wife's home based business.
Is this something that can, or will, affect the signals for the radios used for SWL/HAM uses...
I do but the price is rapidly going out of my range.:scared:
On another note............
I've been watching the Kenwood R-1000's and noticed that they are running in a more affordable range. That said, since I'm not sure where my interest will go yet I've pretty much decided to invest in a...
These are the radios it has come down to once I looked beyond the Realistic DX-160. " Icom R-71a vs JRC NRD-525 vs Kenwood R-1000/5000"
The thing is I have no experience with any of them and only have what I can find on the web to form an opinion with. If anyone here as any had experience with...
