It is typical for DX to go to crap when solar activity is rampant during the summer.
There is "Blanketing" that occurs where signals get absorbed before they can propagate.

Good thought, make sure the transistors are kosher before you get any deeper.
Then there are guys that want you to cobbler stuff together from junk...
Yes if it was free ......
It's sad that someone butchered it, they weren't terrible amps for what they were.
At least the power supply was regulated when most CB amps had nothing but a bridge and a cap and 1446' were good transistors.

I have imported stuff from the UK in the past, however my last purchase was couple years ago.
At that time I paid no import fees or taxes only shipping, best to contact them first, as BC has said some shippers have suspended orders for the US at this time.

All of that old sonybond (glue) needs to go, it becomes conductive and corrosive.
It will short things out and eat the leads away at the same time.

Mike uses quality caps in his kits, I don't know if shipping has skyrocketed in Canada and that drove the price up.
He is a member here, might contact him and see if he could find a cheaper solution for shipping.
Try a direct message to him

I am confused
If it is tx'ing on 13 MHz I don't see how audio mods will help.
I think Bill posted a, sort of NPC mod, for this one somewhere on the forum before,
I will look when I have time.
