Thanks. I'm sticking with my Wilson and putting an amp in the mobile. Saving my money on the 108 install and putting it towards a base antenna

I think I'm gonna have to just focus on getting the base station up and running. Get a beam antenna up. Finally getting some nice weather and my pickup is heating up fast. even in the mid 70s its almost too hot to sit out in my truck. Gotta get something setup indoors or I won't be using the...
The Wilson antennas are good, i have a newer 1000, no complaints from me. Talks 20+ miles with little effort. Not gonna find a better plug and play antenna for $70. Unless you are running high power (over 3000 watts) I wouldn't bother with the 5000.
Where is this section at on the site? I've looked around but couldn't find anything on recommended settings.
I looked up all the nearest repeaters for my area and have the frequencies saved as channel memory presets. Very happy about that. Now I can finally listen to the local Ham club's weekly...
So i decided to break out the HT and try this again.
I have already installed the right drivers and everything, so getting my PC to recognize the baofeng isn't a problem. I have CHIRP, got it all hooked up.
Just a few questions.
If all I am doing is wanting to program a few frequencies in...
yeah, sometimes the mexican stations are a real problem here and they bleed through on the upper lsb channels. it's so annoying. There have been days when the only skip i got was coming through mexico on AM.
Like an Icom 718?
Nick, I was looking at the Uniden Grant XL. is that radio superior to the galaxy 959 on ssb?
There was also this smaller ssb uniden unit somebody posted about on here, but i can't remember the name of it. Said it really packs a punch ssb, very loud and on frequency.
Should I just get a better radio for ssb that is gonna be on frequency right out of the box? Might look for like a used Uniden of some kind. I've only read good things about their ssb performance. Everyone says the galaxy drifts, i'm starting to see what they mean.
I bought one just to use for listening to local communication. I could never figure out how to program it, it's been in the closet since i got it. I think i was getting close once I downloaded CHIRP, but i accidentally reset the thing somehow and the next thing i knew it was speaking chinese and...
I don't have a problem hearing stations. I can hear all kinds of skip going on with my antenna, I hear stations the world over. I think my biggest problem on ssb is that my Galaxy 959 is off frequency, so it makes it hard for them to understand me. I need to address this if I want to do any...
Awesome video, that antenna setup is nice and the groundplane is insane.
imagine that thing with a 3 element beam antenna attached to it.
Do you run the same radio in your mobile station?
kept calling CQ today on 38lsb, I always say "trying" after I call, a guy heard me and was getting maaaad. Kept saying "To the guy that's trying, try getting on frequency so we can hear you." He was getting upset about it because i kept "Trying" by turning my clarifier a little and calling...
Very informative post as always, thank you.
I do have an external SWR meter, I have one of those cheap workman meters, got that a few months ago with my antenna.
With the 1000 I get a 1.4 on channel 20. I monitor the SWR with the internal meter often too, and it's never been above 1.5. Pretty...
What exactly does an unlocked clarifier allow me to do that the stock setting won't? Some people say it is best to leave it stock, others say unlock it.
There is a tech in Arkansas that was recommended to me by hayseed here on the forum... I am in the process of contacting him and seeing about...
So a lot of you have been following my quest to make DX contacts with stock radio equipment. My Galaxy DX-959 paired with a wilson 1000 mag mount on my truck. I'm not exactly satisfied with the results this setup has yielded so far. It's fine for local communications. definitely does the trick...
