The 979 was a decent little radio, all it should need is a nice tune and alignment. Then put a good mic on it and let it roll. It will drift on SSB some, just the nature of the beast. If you really are planning on doing a lot of SSB talking maybe there is a TCXO mod for it out there for it.

Radio is back and working fine. Needed new finals and then just a general check over. I am happy with the overall service from this shop.

I have had great luck with these for anything in the 5-40 amp range. Just put the metal end in a vice grip and fill it 3/4 with solder and then dunk the cable in. Works great, I have had zero failures in 15 years...

The watt meter between the radio and amp lets you check the SWR on the input side of the amp. If the SWR is high then the amp was not properly tuned for 50 ohms and needs some work.

Wow good catch and repair. They do make a fan kit that mounts right to the RFX.
