That's just the rating of the speaker.
I used a15 with my galaxy 959 - sounds kind of low.
Not sure what the solution is . . . . . . I'm thinking the radio doesn't have enough punch . . .
Lowes up here didn't have anything. Didn't even know what guy wire was although they obviously had steel cable. Bit of a language barrier I guess.
Stopped at a rat shack on the way home - one of the decent franchisee stores.
Two things:
1. apparently they are getting away from the...
The IMAX is sitting on top of a 15 foot pole bolted to the shed and I think I want to go up to 30 feet with it.
Even though the Radio shack poles are pretty heavy duty, I'm thinking 15+ feet of unsupported pole is going to whip around too much and I need to tie it down.
Need hardware to...
Been using SSB for comm with folks I know from the mobile and then hanging around on AM and jumping in from the base.
Can't say I notice that much difference in range from AM to SSB. Maybe 25% further or so . . . . . but it could be the terrain.
Definately goes further than AM . . . . ...
If you turn down the gain, it basically lowers the signal strength of everything. So noise gets lower . . . . . but strong signals can still get through.
Not choppy like the squelch.
To see if it is working look at your s-meter. Say you have 3s of noise, turn the control counter...
I turn down the RF gain if it gets too noisy - squelch has always been un-user-freindly . . . . never can get it to work right without chopping someone up.
Seem pretty cost effective for the watt . . . . looks like they use tubes:

This guy has them pretty cheap when compared to X-force base amps and some others: http://www.dandjradiowaves.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=27_55...
Was playing around today with a 959 mobile and 2547 base on SSB.
After warm up they are fine. Was very satisfied with the range - about 15 miles as the crow flies in a snowstorm from mobile to base with two barefoot radios in the mountains.
Have to go slow with the clarifier as a little...
Two questions:
AM uses carrier
SSB pumps all the wattage into modulation
COnsidering the legal 4 watts Vs 12, which gets out further?
Also, if using a little amplification, are there any rules of thumb that hold true - like SSB goes 4 times further than AM
amd 100 watts of amp on...
House lines are buried - these are small street lines after the step down transfomers - I think they are 660v.
And confirmed, no noise directly under it with the mobile.
