ANd of course it landed on the circuit board and cracked it. (Was re-installing in the car and not paying attention.
It was a Midland 79-290 . . . liked it but the detachable faceplate broke pretty quickly so I don't think I want to get another.
So what should I get - needs to be front...
Different types of locktite - make sure you use the right one.
It goes by thread size - use the wrong type and will either not work or will work so well it can be called "lock-glue".
Sounds like a plan.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to get it up there without killing myself. (My climbing years are behind me - and most of these are ash - straight as an arrow and no limbs below 20' off the ground . . . . . )
18-20 feet above the chimney is way above the roofline - ng.
Haven't put up the flagpole yet - got it for father's day last year. Needs to go up in the spring when the ground thaws . . . . . . no substitutes without hurt feelings so not an option.
Trees are real tall. Problem is they...
I am in the process of selecting a SSB base station. So far I like the Ranger TR696F.
Any recommendations on who to buy it from online? I've looked at Copper, GIJoe, Durham, and Clay's radio shop.
Price is out of whack on some and not all offer peak and tune services etc.
Any other...
I am looking to buy a base station for the house (CB with SSB).
Need to figure out what to do for an antenna.
I can't hang a 30 foot antenna on the roof.
I could mount something to a fence behind some trees. It would have to be lower than 30' to remain inconspicuous
I could mount...
I'm going to get a decent antenna for the house and start experimenting.
Let me ask a culture question: why does licensing seem to dominate this hobby? I realize you need a license as you do for so many things these days.
But in other hobbies, if a newbie expressed interest, the first...
re: qrz
Actually from what I just read I am hearing them say no.
That is when they aren't saying "license" . . . .
I may try to get a base SSB and a better antenna on the truck and see what that does . . . .
I am looking to set up a means of communication with a 50 mile range that would not rely on repeaters or anything else but two radios and power to work.
I currently have CB's with SSB in both vehicles, but the range is limited. I'd like to replace those and get a base unit for the home.
So...
I actually tried to mount a 4' no ground antenna )Avalanche bed cover is plastic) to the back of the truck with no luck. (I'm not drilling holes in a brand new truck.)
So I had to get something small for the roof - don't want to be killing birds and catching power lines with the thing.
It the Firestik cellular lookalike mag mount mobile.
The set screw that adjusts mast height is near useless - almost no change in SWR at either extreme.
Moving the antenna around the roof makes a far bigger difference.
At one point I had it up near the luggage rack which sent the SWR...
Just did an antenna installation today an got it dialed in pretty good.
about 1.5 on channel 1 and 2.5 on channel 40.
Rained pretty heavy and I went inside.
Came back out and now both numbers are a full point higher each . . . . . is that normal?
Thanks.
Mounting it where I wanted to didn't work out so I bought the Firestik cellular lookalike mag mount for the roof.
Hopefully it works out.
Didn't have an SWR meter on it but when I breifly keyed up on the no-ground, the signal strength meter did not go full swing which according...
