So far I've only used the license lookup feature. I like the way it is set up now compared to the old system...it seems to be a lot faster retrieving info.
There is no age limit. The only requirement is that you pass the exam. The ARRL and W5YI both offer study guides that cover the particular license class you are trying to obtain. There are also online practice exams that you can take in preparation for the exam such as the one at QRZ. Do...
The D104M6B is a good handheld mic, but if turned up too much it will pick up a lot of background noise. I found that running the mic gain on the mic around 20% will allow for good modulation and minimum background noise. If you need additional modulation adjust the gain on the radio to suit...
I have no clue? Really? I was not "bashing" anyone. I was simply stating the facts as to how Sparky "tunes" radios and the results of that "tune". How many "Sparky tuned" radios have you been inside to see what his "tune" consists of? Since you claim yours is 'No splatter...cross mod...spurious...
Now that you have the mp3 on your machine you can convert it to rm format. It's been awhile since I've used it (I don't use real player anymore), but you used to be able to convert fully functional files during the trial period of this program:
RM Converter, Convert AVI to RM(Real Media)...
My reply was to a specific question that Booty Monster asked:
'so i gotta ask , what type of legal (court/jail) issues would a cb'er get into using a ham ID that isn't theres on the CB band ?'
When I said "elsewhere" I meant using your call on other radio services (bands). Of course you...
I could be mistaken, but IIRC a ham can only use their call on the amateur bands. The FCC does not grant them permission to use it elsewhere.
I operate my CB without echo and =<100% modulation with a maximum of 12 watts pep. I get unsolicated comments all the time about how good my radio...
I agree - there's no need to use a tuner for 2m/70cm operation. The 897 has a dedicated 2m/70cm antenna jack (see page 18 of your manual, #8 in illustration) so you can plug the JTB-1 directly into that. I work FM and SSB on 2m and FM on 70cm with my JTB-1 and have an SWR of 1.3:1 or less...
Good choice on the power supply and antenna. The radio...well that all depends on what you consider a "good" setup. A GL from Sparky's (meaning the AMC has been disabled and the lpf is not functioning properly) with the addition of the TG (low key/high swing) is a recipe for a splatter box. Feed...
I didn't know that compression added distortion to the signal. I know that a high input level will cause distortion due to clipping, but thought that compression clipping improved the signal by eliminating some of the peaks that could cause distortion. I guess the day isn't a complete waste...I...
I agree that the addition of distortion will increase the perceived volume, but I also think that the use of compression also increases the perceived volume of commercials. ;)
If the competition amp manufacturers changed bias and added filtering then their customers couldn't get on the forums and brag that they have a 2 pill that does 800 watts pep.
Good info you posted - if only more people would look at it that way, but most are only concerned...
Hey Mole...I think your mind may be preoccupied with all the other BS going on lately.
Look on page 25 of your manual to find out how to use the tone search scan feature. If you don't have a manual you can d/l it from Yaesu:
Welcome to Yaesu.com
I agree - If you receive the radio as described you got a pretty good deal on it. :thumbup1: I have seen many a hacked up and blemished 2000 go for more money.
If your radio is getting that hot then adding a fan would be (imo) cheap insurance. It seems like it's hit and miss with the running hot issue. I've read of others having a problem, but the temp gauge on my 7000 has never run in the red. I know a couple locals that also run the 7000 and they...
Although it's a dual-band antenna (2m/70cm) you may want to take a look at the Jetstream JTB-1:
Jetstream
After a lot of review reading, inquiries on forums and talking to some locals I bought one and for the money it is (imo) a very good antenna. A lot of people told me they found it...
Years ago I used to go up on a hilltop and mount an A99 on 15 feet of masting into a modified receiver hitch on the back of my '85 GMC T15 Jimmy. I had a wire attached to the masting and a ground rod that I would pound into the ground. It used to piss off the big strappers around here because my...
I ran a Wilson 1000 mag mount for a couple of years before I went over to a hard mount. The biggest difference I noticed with the hard mount was less noise in my receive. It made it easier to hear and work the weaker signal stations versus the mag mount.
I think Johnny may have been influenced by some of the "Elitists" over at the Zed. After all, it appears he's just trying to "self police" the CB band. There's nothing wrong that, except perhaps the interpretation of "self police". Some think it gives them the right and power to condemn those...
