I'm base. I'm running the radio and burner from the same battery. And the power cable is rated at 10 amps. I'm beginning to think that the amp circuitry isn't designed for ssb, even though a ssb switch is on the unit. Have you had a look at the schematic?
cheers for the reply. I also noticed that all the ssb switch does is switch in a cap. I'm using a Superstar 3900 turned down to 4 watts on fm/4 watts pep on ssb. Can anybody else confirm that this amp is unsuitable by viewing the schematic please? Cheers.
the audio is perfect on fm and am with the amp, and it's also good on ssb without the amp switched on. I use a 1/2 wave basic vertical. Suggestions as to grounding my system would be appreciated. Would joining a wire from the bracket of my antenna into the garden help do you think? I'm willing...
Thanks for the response. The amp is a zetagi b47. I don't know what class it is, but there's a schematic on the cb tricks website. The audio is perfect when the amp is off, but awful when switched on. By the way, there's a ssb/am switch. I've tried it switched both ways. Cheers.

Hi guys. I am having some problems. When i use my radio with no amp in use on ssb my audio is a good q5 according to everyone i request reports from. However, when i attach my amplifier everybody says the audio is very scratchy and darlicky and generally crap. I've altered the gain on my mic and...

That's my problem.Into the dummy load my astatic modulates on ssb as normal, but when i use my antenna it often plays up. I use new coax and my antenna is only about 25 foot away and level with me. This suggests that the astatic is very poorly shielded. I tried 3 other power mics and a dynamic...
No mods have been done. I've even reduced the power to 4 watts and the left hand side of the transceiver still gets pretty warm. I've decided to use a mini fan, it's blowing on the rear of the radio behind the power lead and is keeping it reasonably cool now. It's a very poorly designed radio...
My antenna is only about 25 feet away. I cannot even use my astatic on ssb as it's prone to the same problem you get when i turn my gain from 3 onwards. Ie- the needle just stays at full power or becomes very erratic. With a dynamic mic i don't have a problem. I think it's the circuitry in the...
I've reduced the fm/am carrier to 4 watts, but it's still getting pretty hot. In fact there appears to be little difference. I'll just sit it out and hope that the component doesn't fry after long term usage.
It's rf feedback, i'm sure. How far is your antenna from your transceiver? Also, are you using a power mic? I have this problem using my astatic mic on ssb. When i use a standard mic the problem is immediately remedied. Use ferrite chokes on your feedline/mic cable. Hope this helps.
Hi guys. I've done a search but not found an answer to my question. I use a new ss3900 blue led version with dual mosfet finals(not sure if it's Crt or Ranger). For some reason, after about 30 mins of talking the 2sb827(tr51) gets real hot and the mic plug gets quite warm as a result. This...
Hi. I've just picked up an old mustang 1000 that uses the same board as the Amstrad 901, etc. Does anybody know how to turn the standard roger beep into a peewit type beep. I did it years ago, but can't remember how i went about it. All help appreciated. Cheers.
