From my previous post: some of them could be damaged with as little as 300 watts.
They made several different versions of that basic antenna and some of them had capacitors/resistors inside to perform impedance matching.
I saw one that had been opened up and saw the components that I am...
It is not uncommon for the Shakespeare big stick antennas to be defective due to the inability of the internal matching network to survive excessive power.
I don't have first hand experience with blowing up one of these antennas but I have heard that some of them could be damaged with as little...

MFJ claims to have invented the 'tunable active antenna'.
And that they have continually improved upon its design and they claim that no one else has been successful at copying their design.
If that is true then theirs should be the best.
I would do a search on the web for a "EXPO 100 kit".
You might be able to find someone that has them for sale.
It was a kit that had two crystals with it and you had to solder it into the circuitry of the radio.
It would give an additional 40 below the FCC 40 and 40 above.
It looks like...
You're gonna have to 'show' the math on this one.
Looks like you knocked the 20 down to 15 and then somehow bumped the 35-40 up to 50.
Are you familiar with the term 'gain compression'?
Gain compression is term that describes the 'non-linear' function between driver input power and amplifier...
I have a MFJ207.
Serves the intended purpose of tuning antennas just fine.
If you have a radio within hearing range and have it on sideband you will know when you are whithin a couple hundred cycles. (close enough for antenna work)
If you find that too cumbersome for some situations you might...
Problem fixed.
Just now I discovered what the problem was with the way CL was displaying on my monitor.
I decided that it was time to spend the time and effort to make a more determined attempt to figure out the problem.
