I was just at a local swap meet up here near my house and was looking for any kind of radio equipment and I found a HUGE old Grundig Shortwave table radio. The guy didn't speak English very well, but he wanted $50 for it.
I can't find anything online for it but then again I didn't look for...
wavelength is 36ft correct?
so 1/4 WL would be 9 feet right?
I noticed the a-99 is 1/2 WL or 18ft...
the imax is 5/8 WL or 24ft..
36/8 = 4.5
so 4.5 * 5 = 22.5ft
so would the imax actually be a little more than 5/8 WL?
WL Length
1/8 = 4.5ft
1/4 = 9ft
3/8 = 13.5ft
1/2 =...
I am going to be receiving a Uniden President Grant XL 40ch AM/SSB radio here very shortly. It's going in my Honda Civic so I'm looking for an antenna that will not break the bank and still provide decent performance. I will not be running any amps, so wattage output is not a serious concern...
It's a huge number, yes. I can't find anything online to factor those odds, and my little peabrain isn't strong enough to calculate odds of that proportion.
I was playing on PokerStars this morning and I was dealt Jd Js (2 jacks). The flop came Jc 10h Jh!
Woo hoo for me, right? 4 of a kind!
Wrong.
The guy across the table went all in.
I call. Who wouldn't when you've flopped quads right?
So I'm in for $23 (small stakes table) and...

Driving on the I-10 down here and my wife sees this and decides to snap a picture. (I know, I thought the same thing about the wife...she's finally coming around to the whole radio thing if she sees an antenna and thinks I'd like to see it!)
My wife loves to go thrift store shopping and I like to tag along just to see if someone has dropped off some "donations" of radios that they didn't know what they had or didn't care. Their junk, my treasure...
Only radio I have found down around my area is an old, old JC Penny 23...
4040 man, you were boomin in on Ch 6 earlier down here in Palm Springs man...I attempted contact with you, don't know if you heard or not...I know you were carrying on a QSO with someone for a while there so I didn't want to cut in...
Edit: 30db+ on my meter homeboyyyy
Ok, so after a lot of worry and frustration just a while ago fretting over this; the radio is now sending and receiving again like normal...
I didn't touch anything when I took the covers off, so it's not your fault!!! I have made several contacts since it's been back to it's normal...
So, I was just talking earlier on my radio for a little while, maybe 30 minutes and then left it for a few hours. I was just attempting some contacts a few minutes ago and now when I key up, the meter doesn't light up or move and there's a red light (on air light I'm assuming) that usually...
Well I don't know if it makes any difference or not, but we don't actually have a landline telephone hooked up (only cell phones). I have thought about getting a taller antenna mast, but there is not any other location that will work for the antenna (besides roof, which won't work because wife...
