    pulse interferance

If you mean longer duration pulses, kinda like a thrumming sound, it might be diathermy. These are medical devices that use pulsed, HF radio waves, to induce deep tissue heating. Used to hear them all the time in the 60's and 70's. Ignition noise is also, pulse interference, so not sure what...

    The 5/8 and .64 debate!

On this same subject, I've been designing antennae for over 40 years. I have found that if you design for the radiation pattern that you desire, then figure out how to load the antenna with minimum losses, you have achieved the optimum. Any comments from our new age thinkers? Rich

    The 5/8 and .64 debate!

Thanks, Doc. I think that he is missing the whole point. Who cares about resonance. If you can load into it, with minimum losses, everything radiates. The important factor is, where does it radiate to? If it is not in a useful direction, it does not matter. Rich

    The 5/8 and .64 debate!

This statement only applies to CB. Broadcast engineers have known since the late 1920's, that the ideal height for best ground wave propagation is a 5/8ths wave electrical length. Not 1/2, or 3/4. We are only talking about the electrical length of the radiator and not the entire antenna...

    The 5/8 and .64 debate!

Voice Of America radio. The main reason that VOA uses ladder line is, they use tremendous power and feed balanced antennas. It has nothing to do with impedance. Rich

    Collins R-388/URR

Sounds like you might have the 100 Kc calibrator turned on. Break-in keying for CW?? Might be used to automatically mute the audio during transmit. Just a WAG. Rich

    Opinion of ARRL

I'm a member and feel that it is a good deal. The QST mag is worth the price, alone. There is no one else out there that will speak up for US Amateurs. I do not agree with everything that they propose, but they do answer their mail, when I send an opinion. Rich

Real Radio Guys and Gals Drive These

Actually, the Metro that I'm driving was my wife's, until it was totaled. A Chevy Lumina ran head-on into her at a closing speed of 70+ MPH. Totaled out the Lumina, too. The Metro front end was crushed and the engine/trans-axle was folded down to the road. Windshield was still intact and...

Real Radio Guys and Gals Drive These

Let's see. My Geo Metro gets 45 MPG and a $20 oil change every 6000 miles. 237000 miles and still doesn't use any oil. At $3/Gal for gas, that's 42000 cents/6000 Miles = 7 cents/mile, 6 cents/mile more to operate than the Tesla. At 100,000 miles on the Tesla, I will have saved 600,000 cents...
