    Little Tarheel II

Hey Trucker, I had issues with trying to run the 100A up high on my box truck. I had it mounted where the decoupler was about 3" above the roof. Made it about 15' in height. It wasn't getting enough earth ground so I couldn't get it tuned right in the 80 and 40m. I was going to try to get it...

    Little Tarheel II

Northern, I'll try that along with an 8' whip I've picked up for when I'm stationary on vacation, good idea.

    Icom 7000

Thanks for all the reply's and help. I'm playing with it now. It's pleasing to look at. I played with it extensively at RandL, hooked up mic and went pretty much through the menus. I'm running through it now before I put it mobile. Looks like a keeper. :) Morse, that VSC is interesting isn't it...

    Icom 7000

I hope this isn't too late. For those of you that have them for a time now, are you still happy with them? I'm looking to pick up a new mobile tomorrow and the reviews, I know, on eham aren't to encouraging when it seems that quite a few are having issues. One thing I'd like to know from...

    Impressions of the TS-590

Moleculo, I have one of those as well. I had let go of a Yaesu FT2000, used had issues, and traded it back in and bought the TS590S. It doesn't quite have the cababilities of TX/RX audio adjustments as the FT2000. It does have Hp1 Hp2, bb1, bb2, Flat, Conventional and user. The user setting...

    Little Tarheel II

great pointers Hamer, I'm going to order one of those. that would be nice on vacations. We go to upper Michigan on the lake. I could find a spot and pull up to the water and put that on the coil and see what shakes. Thanks

    Little Tarheel II

wow 8' :) that would be great for 75m. I have the whip adapter for non threaded whips that will hold pretty thick stock. May give that a shot. Yeah, everything over 40m, possibly 20m would be gone. Hmmm, I wonder if that would resonate 160m? The 56" really bends in the wind going highway...

    Little Tarheel II

Well I finally after having it a month got it installed on my vehicle. I have to say after using it a few days, that it's definitely better than the ATAS120A. (note) The 120A is doing a fine job on the box truck. I do notice it's not as smooth on the motor drive when going up or down. This...

New to Ham. 10m and 2m questions

When I took my general, I had to show my tech license and they copied it and it was with my papers for the general. If I didn't have the tech card with me, I would have had to taken the tech test as well as the general.

    Zero-Five 24 Foot Vertical

I have the 10-40 ground plane and it does really well. Tom has a great reputation for his designs. I've talked to a couple over the air that had the stealth like you're looking at in HOA and loved them. They're pricey but very well made and you get great support. There's others out there, check...

    12 meter popularity ???

This morning, Denmark, Ireland, Kuwait and Northern Africa on 12m as well as the normal contacts I get to England. Very often the 10m dx will go back and forth to 12 and also 15,18 when those bands are up. Around 4am eastern some are working 40m to states.

    Giant Screwdriver Antenna

Interesting, HiQ has changed their website a bit. I don't see all the user pictures that used to be there. There was a corvette that had the 6 inch diameter antenna on the back, looked identical to the one in this post. HiQ's are 6 foot tall and 6 inches in diameter. On the back of that vette...

    Giant Screwdriver Antenna

Check HI-Q antennas site. They make a 6" diameter one that just about like that. Look at the antenna models and click on the 6" dia model and you'll see it. It's the submarine model, military or mobile. :)

    Little Tarheel II

I've been running the hamsticks, but I just got tired of stopping and switching. I run a lot of 12, 15 and 17m as well as 10. I've got great ground and counterpoise on my box truck and I've done really well with the ATAS120A. I just wanted to try working some 75m, yeah, price for another band...

    Little Tarheel II

No tuner necessary. Talking with WB0W, Gaylen who designs the Tarheel, was telling me the best way is just put the radio in FM/AM tune to the loudest noise level and it'll be 1:5 or less. OR, just use the radio's swr meter, low power and tune it after the suggestion above to be sure. He was...

    Little Tarheel II

Will do. I'm going to mount it on the upper side of the box in the front corner. I purchased the cap hat so I can run a 3' whip and cover the bands well and not have to worry about whacking bridges. :)

    Little Tarheel II

Well I ended up getting the little Tarheel II for my car and the 100HP for my box truck at the Ft Wayne In hamfest. Now if it would quit raining.

What's a good "all in one" radio for a fairly new ham who just likes to chat?

Isn't the TS2000 the only one with dual receive in its price class that covers HF/6/2/70? I was thinking there were a couple others but quite a bit more expensive. For base, if you can talk the xyl into it, that's a nice one. It's nice to be able to monitor a favorite freq while chewing on...
